Were Diamond Cut barrels and heads ever a CVO factory option ?
« on: December 30, 2015, 08:02:52 AM »

Hi All
Here in Australia I'm thinking about buying a very clean 2009 Springer that's recently come up for sale, about 3,500 miles on the clock.
It has all the original kit but it's fitted with Diamond Cut barrels and heads, even the 110 badge on the engine is diamond cut.

Do any of you know if it was a factory option from new?

Cheers for now, Leroy

Diamond cut heads and barrels were never a factory item.

If Harley did offer we'd see the ironic twist of someone else's lawyers visiting Mother Harley for use infringement....  :huepfenlol2:

Fantastic, thanks guys
Knew you'd have the answer.
Does make me wonder why someone would change out the barrels and heads on such a low mileage bike.

Thanks again, Leroy

Some people like the look, it is claimed that this process will reduce heat, and maybe there was some other motor work done to the bike and the owner just included this process during that time. :nixweiss:

More than likely they're the factory heads and cylinders.

A dubious claim by the company that has patented the diamond cut process, but yes a claim, none the less.  I expect your heads and cylinders are original to your bike.  I'd also suspect if someone went as far as having the diamond cut process applied to these parts, that they also did some further head porting work...

Oh yeah.  The final product was definitely gorgeous.  The process to get there, however, was not.  The company was slow, the reps were impossible to get answers from about the work once they had your money in hand (and they got that before starting), the work was slow, the people were arrogant, the work was sooooo slow, the people were pedantic, pegagogical and oh so annoyingly arrogant and the work was sooooo freaking slow (and pretty damned expensive for what they do).  Looked damned nice when it was done.  But I'll never, ever (ever) do it with that company again.

Their principal passed away relatively recently.  Perhaps things have changed?  Someone other than me will have to find out though.

Yes they were.  The diamond cut  over that red powder coat was just gorgeous.  Definitely the best looking engine I ever did.  Also one of the better running I ever did.  That was a sweet job.   Have collected a few junk cylinders to practice on.  When I'm comfortable with my own output will do powder and cut again to another one here.
