New engine noise on a 2009 Street Glide with a 96" motor
« on: July 24, 2017, 10:09:33 AM »

I just returned last week from a trip to Missoula, MT and I encountered a noise one morning after start up that I have never had before. It was a clacking noise that sounded like it was in the top right hand part of the motor and it went away 20-30 seconds after start up. The oil pressure is fine.

I think that it was from the RH front rocker area and it has not returned. During the 20-30 seconds that it was making noise, it emitted an oil smell that must have come out of the breather and it quit when the clacking quit.

The bike has ran fine since and the noise has not returned. The bike has about 14,000 miles on it and is all stock.

Any ideas as to what that may have been or concerns going forward?

Could have been a sticking lifter but the lifters are where I'd look first.
