Limited/Ultra CVO???
« on: July 31, 2017, 07:49:04 AM »

This question has been bopping around in my empty head for several years now.  Just thought I'd throw it out there for some answers.

I know years ago, as today, you could buy an Ultra Classic or you could buy a CVO Ultra.  The upgrades on the CVO are all known, not a surprise.

But then a few years ago, you could buy a Limited.  This in theory was supposed to get you to a mid point between the standard Ultra Classic and a CVO Ultra.

But then they came out with a CVO Limited.  ???????

So is the CVO Limited still just a step below the CVO Ultra?

I thought most CVO's were supposed to be sold with all the bells and whistles.  So why buy a CVO Limited instead of a CVO Ultra?  I'm sure that they're not both same year current models, so you may have to wait a year or so to get one or the other.

This question is in no way meant to piss off any CVO Limited owners, but what's the difference?

I see the CVO Street Glide as less optioned than a CVO Ultra, but that's quite clear, you can SEE the difference.  But I bet a CVO Limited and CVO Ultra side by side you'd be hard pressed to see the difference, other than model year paint scheme.

Okay, time to thrashed now for this... :)

Not sure if just a name change only. Not sure of any skimping on CVO Limited

Harley can add more confusion to names and model designations than sand grains on the beach it seems.  As far as I can recall the nomenclatures changed with the introduction of the Rushmore models in 2014.

The non-CVO models for the Electra Glide family start out with the Ultra Classic.  This model does not have security system, it has the smaller 4.3" BB screen, and it is air/oil cooled.

The next step up is the Limited which adds the security system, the 6.5" premium BB, and is water cooled.  The CVO model of this bike is the CVO Limited - FLHTKSE. There is no CVO Ultra Classic.  The CVO Limited is the current model designation.

HD must enjoy confusing nomenclature.

In the HD Ultra line currently:
Electra Glide Ultra Classic
Road Glide Ultra
Ultra Limited
Ultra Limited Low

The CVO Limited does not share the Ultra name, but it could be considered as a CVO Ultra, because it's trim level is highest of the movable upper fairing bikes that also have lower fairings.  Except for the name "CVO Limited" all the other "Ultras" have lowers.

Confused?  :nixweiss:  I am.   :-\

Initially the Limited (LTD) was indeed added as a step up from the TC96 equipped  models, and came with the TC103.  At the time the CVO Ultra was the top dog and came with the CVO110 and all the bells and whistles.  A few years ago this lineup got flip-flopped and now they call the top of the line CVO the Limited.  It's just a name change, kind of like when the car folks all abandoned the Limited model designations and went with the Platinum, Titanium, and I assume eventually the Unobtainium model designations.  Marketing folks run amuck, nothing new.

Technically the new Limited is the Ultra Limited. Why they dropped the Ultra and just started calling it a Limited is beyond my pay grade.
