Radial crack in tire

Found this today while I was getting the Ultra ready for an upcoming trip. Anyone seen this failure before?

I've already got an appointment for a new tire. I've never seen a tire fail like that before. I was thinking it was a probably a defect from the molding process since it's right in the center. Your failure wouldn't be that. Any idea what might cause this?

It's a cut.  Ran over something.

upcoming trip.............The cut maybe is prodding you to replace a tire that appears in the pic to be needing replacing prior to a (upcoming trip) anyway... :nixweiss:  Doesn't look like much tread depth left. :confused5:

It doesn't look like it in the picture but the tire actually had a decent amount of rubber on it, but I was debating whether or not it would stand up for a 5,000 mile trip when I found the cut. That made the decision easy, had a new tire put on yesterday morning.

Not sure how fast I was going but I definitely didn't see anything in the road.
