259e or 585 cam
« on: August 31, 2017, 09:47:39 PM »

Looking for recommendations on a HD CVO 110 upgrade using the HD 117 kit. The bike is a 2015 CVO RG  with Fullsac DX pipe on high flow mufflers. I'm looking for the torque and hp to be down in the rpm range around 2,500 rpm. Which cam pulls better down low?

585 would be better for the rpm range you use and will work well with the compression the kit pistons are rated at. I  would suggest a .030 or .027 head gasket. Depending on where the piston sits in the hole should get you around 10.2 to 1 static.

If you're leaving the heads alone, I'd recommend a TTS 150
Works very well with the 117 drop kit

Please forgive me for jumping in here on someone else's thread but I have a question. I have a 2013 CVO Road King with the Screaming Eagle 110. I have the Cobra Powerflo 4 1/2" slip on's and the Cobra FI200 Powerpro Black tuner and K&N Air Cleaner. I am going to have some warranty work done to replace the lifters. Since they are going to replace the lifters I want to also upgrade the cam without touching the heads or valve springs. I plan on decatting my existing headers. I'm not a hot rodder by any means but do like to roll on some power from time to time. Very seldom to I ever hit 4000 rpm.  With that being said what cam would you recommend to give me the most power without having to change valve springs ? Thanks..

The SE 585 with no kit changes other than the tune will better match your needs.

Than you for your help. If I already have the Cobra black tuner will I still need a tune ?  From what I understand, and I'm not really all that knowledgeable in these areas, won't the tuner take care of any necessary adjustments?

Tuners of this type will only trim fuel. Consider a tts or power vision and a professional dyno tune. All areas get a dressed properly with a flash over the original map.

Ahhhhh, ok.. Guess I just threw away a bunch of money on a tuner I thought would do more.. damn.. lol  Thanks so much for your help..If I get a dyno tune after installation of the 585 cams will the Cobra tuner that I have be of any use at all ?

It will help get the fuel closer but not exactly right. It does not even monitor or use the AFR values based on the O2 sensor readings.  :nixweiss:
The further you move away from stock spec the worse this tuner will work. Another big disadvantage is no memory. Turn the key off and values of changes are lost and on the next fire up they must be learned again. This can take a while on a non-stock spec motor.

The 585 is a short cam and will need timing changes which this tuner will not handle.

Tell us where you are at and maybe I or another user can suggest a dyno shop to help guide you.

I have the 259 cams that came with the kit. Dyno shows a 119 tq. at 2500 rpm.
