64mm TB with stock heads
« on: April 30, 2018, 05:54:06 PM »

Would there be any cons to adding the 64mm TB with 5.5 injectors on the 2018 CVO 117 with stock heads? I'm told the gas mileage takes a drastic hit. It'll be going in at the same time I'm installing my cam, exhaust and air filter. They're on order but if it's going to reduce my mpg to something as low as 10-15 then I don't think it's worth it.

I know mileage drops as it did with my 17 stage 4 M8 but it wasn't THAT drastic.

What are you trying to accomplish? What cam? What tuner? What exhaust? Sounds like you’re trying to build you’re own version of HD’s Stage III kit. You’ll void your factory warranty with any non-epa approved cam, tuner and/or exhaust, if that matters?

More low end torque with all around pickup. Putting the 22X Woods cam, Arlen ness Method series breather, Basani Road rage 2 full exhaust with PCV. I had ordered the feuling camplate and race oil pump but canceled until I can get more information on it.

The plan is to eventually get the CNC ported heads but didn't want to have to buy everything at once.

What tuner? Do you understand the factory warranty on your new 2018 bike will be voided with the exhaust and cam you plan to install? Just checking as there are still some growing pains with the M8 engine.

Yes, I completely understand the ramifications. I'm using the Power commander 5.

Ok, just checking. Good luck with the build. IMO, there is no upside and a possible downside of low end torque loss with the larger TB combined with the stock heads. You’ll never max out the stock injectors with just a cam, exhaust, intake upgrade. No need for the larger injectors without going to much higher flow heads.

Got it thank you. I'll cancel my order and put the money to something more worth while, like a new corbin seat  :)

The CNC Harley heads don't show even a 2 HP gain in my testing. But the 64 TB will increase peak HP by about 5 points with no loss in low end power. The 5.5 injectors are a real good idea to make power safely above 105 HP. Fuel milage loss will be minimal to none if tuned properly. With that said, The Power Commander has no place in a modern build. Stay with a flash tuner like TTS or Power Vision. I attached a dyno test from a 2018 CVO 117 with stock heads, 64 TB, 5.5 inj, TTS 200 cam and my Fullsac MX Pipe. 125 HP from 117 cubes with stock heads. The last 120 I did with the CNC heads made 127 HP. Keep the stock heads and get that Corbin seat! :2vrolijk_21:

That is a really nice torque curve Steve.  Very nice looking and very much fun to ride I am sure, torque every where.

Hey Dave! I'm working on a 124 with a TTS 200 in the shop today. Hope to see 130/140 out of this one. Sadley it was a 120" that I did last year that sumped after 2K and burnt down. Making a few oil system adjustments hoping to keep this one alive!

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I decided not to go with the TB and injectors for now. I am going with the TTS and ditching the PCV. I have an appointment for a dyno tune at RC Cycles in Hayward tomorrow. I'll post the dyno sheet after

Sounds very interesting.  I will be looking to see the results.  How much compression?  Head work? I will also be curious as to what you do to prevent the sumping.

The results from my Dynotune today. It's pretty much what I was looking for, good low end torque.
