Where are all these illegal alians you are talking about that will work for 5 - 10 $ an hour.  I will pay, just don't know where to find them. They are not advertising in the local paper, ya know what I mean?

LOL MsWeCVO. First off, I didn't necessarily call em illegal. $5 an hour? Good luck. $10? Maybe.

You're just helping to make my case. Can't find anyone willing to work.

. So, while they're doing our work, the rest of us draw our check from the government.

H/B
I know where your coming from. But the "US" above is not correct.
I know it's not you and I know damn well it's not me.
I send the Uncle Sam money twice each month and to retain the privilege of living here I would send even more if necessary. People these days do not have the work ethic that you and I have. It's all about what the government can do for them.

Not to get on a rant (I hate typing) but I will always remember a conversation that happened on my first job at the age of 14. I worked at a grocery store bagging groceries. One of the other baggers asked the manager for a raise. His words were, "I will work harder if you give me a raise". I will always remember the managers words, Son it doesn't work that way. If you work harder first then you will get a raise.  I have never forgotten that. I don't ask for anything that I haven't worked for. Just not in my nature.
********************************

Off my box now,

If We continue in this way and the Mexicans are willing to work and work hard for $12 an hour, I say--BRING EM ON.

H/B
I agree with your words above but try to manage through structure followed by compassion.
I employ at any given time 70 to 90 workers of Hispanic origin.
Tommorrow I may discover a few illegals but the following day they are gone.
I spend lots of time and money trying to help the ones that want to help themselves.
It's a vicious circle of balancing what it takes to be fair to your fellow man as opposed to what is legal.

I know, I know,,,,, compassion is not one of my strong points.

I did hire about 20 Mexicans one year. They were excellant employees to a point. Each and every one of them had a social security Number. Each and everyone of them claimed single and 8 dependants. At the end of the year when we turned everything in, each and every SS# was bogus. We had an address on each one, but guess what? They weren't living there anymore.

Just Legally...

Exactly Bill!

If I utilize illegal workers and know it then I am as much a part of the problem as they are.

I meant the word "US" as sarcasm. As if we're all on food stamps and welfare. some days, seems to me, that's where we're all headed, to a socialist form of government. You and I are a lot alike, I'm sure. I went to work at an age when it would be illegal to work now. I've been working ever since. I was raised, if you don't work, you don't eat.

I do have to admit, I take off work to ride this scooter.

You do that because you have earned the right.
What has an illegal immigrant earned to deserve that right.
Who pays their taxes on money they receive?
As far as I'm concerned until their status is legal then they have no rights as an American citizen and should receive NO benefits that citizenry brings!

I dont know how you live down there. Its beautiful country but its been taken over by criminals. I'm moving out of Phoenix because of the Illegals, I cant even imagine it down there!
well actually it is not as bad as you would expect, for the main reason that this a major illegal entery point, so they stay close to the mountains out of site of the border patrol.........unless they are needing a ride back to Mexico that is. I have 2 large ROTTS, my yard is fenced, so, they don't really bother me. physicly that is. but, I do see them on the road almost every morning, or for instance once it snowed in the mountains,Iwas on my way home from Douglas, I counted 130 people..... illegals in groups of 25 -30 walking down the road headed back to Mexico.they came out of the woodwork!!!!!here around my house, they don't want everyone to know how major of a entry point it is....... someone might want to shut it down........... maybe!!!!!

I used to work along the TX/MX border on a regular basis.  The problems on the border there are EXACTLY like the ones you describe.  Some illegals cross to bring other illegals and go back like clockwork (coyotes), others run drugs and a variety of other contraband, and the vast majority hope to get in our country illegally so they can work and make more than they ever could in their home countries.  The border areas suffer the brunt of the assorted problems more than most other areas, and the media in 90% of the US prefers to pretend the problems do not exist & choose to attempt to glorify it.

Good idea on those rotts, considering.

Ok, Excuse me while I go on a rant myself. I'm not trying to say illegal aliens aren't a problem. It's a huge problem. I've got a differnt twist on it.

I'm in the construction business in the heartland of America. Here, labor rates are from $8-$16 an hour depending on experience and the task at hand. Try and hire labor for $12. All you'll get is the meth heads and drunkards on work release. If a guy shows up drunk and you fire him, he'll apply for unemployment and I would venture to guess 95% of the time succeed in getting it. Who pays the bill? First, I do. Secondly we all do. After he gets on unemployement, He'll find a job that pays cash & he'll be better off than a person who will actually work. Our society makes it better for these people to NOT work and be productive. Well, who is going to pour the concrete and bust the rebar? Who is going to hang the steel and frame the houses? The Mexicans. They don't mind. They're happy to just have a job. So, while they're doing our work, the rest of us draw our check from the government. Is there any wonder there's a federal deficit? How much longer can we continue?

As long as I'm showing my ass, let me get the rest out of my system. Ever heard of the Davis Bacon act? Labor and wage scale? Davis and Bacon were large contractors up North somewhere. Boston, NYC, or Chicago. There was a large government project bidding and a contractor from Louisiana won the bid and brought all the help from the cotton patches up north to work, because they were cheaper. After all, they were looking for the cheapest bid, right? Well--Davis nor bacon were very happy, so they vowed that wouldn't happen again. They got legislation passed to make sure that other federally funded projects pay "prevailing wages". Now, across the country "prevailing wages" is pretty standard on government funded projects. I'm on the TN/Ky line. In KY, an iron workers gets $24 an hour plus $8 in benefits. The WC rate for an iron worker is $75 per hundred. That means that man costs $56 per hour. Twenty miles away Across the state line in TN, it's about 1/2 of that. $56 an hour? Are we out of our minds? And if you asked that iron worker to pour concrete he'd tell you to kiss his ass because That's not in his job description.

If We continue in this way and the Mexicans are willing to work and work hard for $12 an hour, I say--BRING EM ON.

well let me tell you something , you being farther in land from Mexico, do not see or here about the problems caused here closer to the border.... for instance one of them jump the border fence, falls breaks a leg.... they call emts emts take him to the hospital, where he operated on then he lays in recovery for 2 weeks then when he is well enough he is deported...... who pays for this???????? we do. last week there was in the newspaper 2 seperate incidents one involving 180 lbs of pot the other involving 250 lbs both the week was confinscated, but no one was prosectuted.... ausa rules?????????? just deported. the fact of the matter is the drug runners have to be caught 11 times with over 200 lbs each time before being prosectuted. now let you or I try that for that matter let you or I get caught with a oz of pot!!!!!! people around my home are constintly being broke into..... by illegals..... a young girl was attemped raped by illegals.... the list goes on and on!!!!!!!!!!

One of my best friends is a contractor here in Colorado Springs. I've talked to him many many times about the problems he faces regarding this. What HogBreath is saying is a perfect echo of my friends expieriences. It's hard work and it's hard to find American workers with the same work ethics for that price. My friend doesn't feel like he has a choice if he wants to stay in buisiness but seriously struggles with the moral issue. He's worked hard to get to where he is and takes a lot of pride in several areas of his buisiness that he feels sets him apart from his competition (being dependable, craftsmanship, etc.). He can't be sucessfull in that way if he has to hire undependable, lazy, freeloaders. But he also knows that I along with most of our other friends just can't approve. He understands our position all too well and it eats him alive.

I stole a saying from this site and I cheap shot him all the time with it... Thanks for helping me spend my money!!!

Just Legally...

And pay TAXES

That is a major problem here. So many not paying taxes and working so cheap that prices have plumated. I can't afford to go out and hire legal workers for the same job and win that job by bid. Well I could if I wanted to loose money.
example:   Plumbing new construction, I used to get $3300 for each bath in a house. Been getting it for the last 4 years. My supply costs have risen over 40%      A new company moved into the area from Raleigh and bids jobs at $2300 per bath!!!!      How you ask,, he has one legal person, mexican, who has a blanket workers comp policy$825 a year. Pays liability based on $24500 a year payroll, for $750 a year.I payed $38000 last year for the same policies. The legal guy pays all the rest of the illegals under the table. He has never filed Fed. taxes and is vocal that he never will. He laughes at the IRS saying what will they do, send me home? It has already happened to him once and he was back in less than 3 weeks.
I have told my contractors that I will sit on my azz and do nothing before I work and loose money.

We as americans have become to rely on the illegals and wont change our ways to make things right. I realize that unless they all are legal and pay taxes that everyone wont be happy  But something needs to be done

WOW Brian!

No wonder you can afford all those toys!

$3,300.00 for a bath WOW

I pay $485.00 per fixture all day long.

Tub, toilet, dbl. vanity that's four fixtures X 485 ='s $1940.00

Even throwing in a shower brings the total to $2,425.00!

$3,300.00 for a bath WOW! If I could get that, then maybe Nancy could get a new pair of shoes.

And to get back on topic,,,,, I pay the same in Charlotte, Charleston, Summerville, Gastonia, Kannapolis to 5 different plumbers and I can assure you their guys do have valid green cards. I know because we check!

$3,300.00 just think how much horsepower I could get after I got Nancy some shoes. :o
