Uh Oh, Found Something
« on: June 08, 2007, 10:00:43 PM »

Wife is out of town and it has been raining off and on tonight so I wandered into a Ford dealer close to home. Found this sitting on the showroom looking back at me.

First one I've seen close up and personal. The interior is really cheap looking. All plastic and very drab, doesn't near the personality of the ZR1 or any vette.

Last one. The two kids in the background went to school with my son, was feeling good until one of them said " hey Mr. Z, you buying this for Jesse?" I said hell no, I'm looking at it for me; they looked at each other and I could see them thinking, what a waste. Getting old is hell!

Anyway, talked to the sales manager and told him I would give him a deposit right now forthe first Shelby GT500K he could get. He is going to check and let me know in the morning what the expected due date is for the new K Shelby snake is. (probablly good he didn't take the check tonight, it would have bounced like a fat lady on a waterbed. Figure I'd have to sell a kid or two before the bank opens Monday)

Which is how Mrs B B ended up with her hotrod Mistu Eclipse GTS  Spyder Convertible The way she and I looked at it was we'd be seeing the interior more than the exterior. Turned out to be a good choice. What the Mitsu lacks in power (only 265hp) it more than makes up in cornering and braking. It'll stick a 90degree corner at 80 without a hint of drift.

BUT, for raw sex appeal, and brute power, you can't beat the 500hp Shelby Cobra can you ?

You got that right, the exterior is sexy as hell and I'm sure the 0-60 raw power of the 500HP in the lump of plastic would be quite a rush. But I agree, it would be all show.

This one is sitting at the Ford dealer between Germantown and Collierville less than 5 minutes from your relatives home. This dealership is right around the corner from JR, PHAZE and me. It would be a great location for all to meet up tommorrow.
They also have a white Shelby GT 350 hardtop on the floor. Didn't take any pix of that one because it didn't do anything for me but interesting to sit in the hardtop vrs the convertable next to each other.

Mark

That 500 is a sweet ride.
As you know, a man can never have too much power. (and 500 is a good start)
I have to agree about the interior though.
My white 03 sitting in the garage has a much better looking interior. (plus it only has 13000 K miles)
Looked at those new Stangs, but BB talked me into holding out for an 03 S/B Harley truck!
Smart man that BB is! ;)

The 2008 Shelby Mustang GT500KR is due out shortly. It has 540 HP, a better looking functioning carbon-fiber hood w/ hood pins, carbon-fiber front splitter, short-throw shift lever, 3.73 rear axle vrs the 3.31 in the GT500 and new Shelby "snake" logos. There is a good review of it in the June Motor Trend with it on the cover. You might be able to find it on the Motor Trend website.

I dunno, Mark.  The Missus might not take too kindly to me showing up at home with a new toy..............and I fear I'd have to leave Germantown with the blue one.  Too awesome..........................but we'll go have a looksee anyway.   :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Mark, one drive in either the 500 or the 500KR and you'll forget all about the plastic.  Hell, I spent 8 hours in a friend's '06 Z06 on Tuesday and they have a bunch of plastic inside, too.  It's just a sign of the times.  But when he ran tha b!atch through the first three gears and the traction control and the 505HP 427 were fighting with one another to see who would win, neither one of us was thinking about the cheap interior!

The Mustangs (even the 300-odd HP GTs) have all of the look, sound and feel of a bonafide musclecar, mostly 'cause they are one, and any horsepower junkie would be proud to have one of those stellar machines in their garage.  Good luck tomorrow with the K and let us know how it turns out.  I'm taking the Ram SRT-10 out in the morning with a few guys, 2 with Z06s, 3 with Vipers, and one with Ford GT (yeah, a GT and I'm not talking Mustang here, either), so I'll be thinkin' about ya! :2vrolijk_21:

A real GT!
Damn, I"m not sure I could drive that.
Would be so worried about knicks and dings.
Probably keep it at home and polish on it.

Wake up Chip, not drive it?
What a waste. Just like my Mustang, I have to see redline at least once a month.
Stirs my soul! Then I put it up and I feel better!
If it can't go to redline then what good is it?

Mark

Just an old 03 in the garage w/14K on it.
A real sleeper, no one notices the twin Garrett turbo's.
Boost has to stay below 9lbs to run 93.

Sales manager just called and left a message, am sitting here shaking looking at the phone. This little voice keeps saying "don't do something stupid, stupid"

Sales manager my azz.  When they have something you really want it don't take no talent to "sell" it.  All he's doing is saving you the trouble of calling him.  What time will it be ready?

Mark

Horsepower in your garage is always better than in someone elses!
Ask Brian (BB or 103T), you can never have too much.

Wow! Just came back from the dealership and I feel like I just made 60K for myself. They sold the blue convert. this morning after he called and left a message for me. So by not calling back until this afternoon, I made 60K! The bad news, they do have a red coupe 08 Shelby GT500 due in next, sometime around July 15 and it is available for list +15K or roughly 60K.
Anyway he did get me an answer on the Shelby GT500KR, they will probably get only one and there is now price they will take for it at this point. I offered them sticker + 20K and they were not the least bit interested. They said with only 1,000 going to be made, they were going to either put it on ebay or auction it on the showroom floor. They expect them to bring over 100K. Don't think I will even be playing in that ball game. :(

Which brings me to one of my favorite  :soapbox:  Real Estate salespeople. When it's a sellers market and a chimp could close the deal, they act like Moses parting the Red Sea when they bring you an offer.  When it's a buyer's market and they actually have to earn their commission, they act like there's something wrong with your house, you, your wife, your kids even your little white haired mother because they can't close a deal.

Leaches, freakin leaches every one of em.
