Three killed in Oklahoma
« on: August 12, 2007, 04:37:06 PM »

Had three fellow riders and friends killed Friday, August 10th.
Four bikes and one trike were heading out for the weekend.  They were down in southern Oklahoma on HWY 7 when an oncoming car crossed center and hit three of the bikes.
The first bike just got sideswiped and managed to stay up.  Amazingly, the rider and his wife were not injured.
The second bike was not as fortunate.  The second bike was hit head-on.  Roger & Linda Gunter were dead at the scene.
The second bike was also hit head-on.  Dead at the scene was Jennie Day.
The third bike was also hit and the rider, Frank Day (Jennie's husband) was transported to Oklahoma City via medi-flight.
The trike in the rear was damaged by debris from the accident, but the rider & passenger were not injured.
Went to see Frank Day at the hospital yesterday.  He has a broken shoulder and pelvis, but the doc said that he should heal without any surgery.  I can't imagine the emotions and hurt he is dealing with - with the loss of his wife, Jennie.
The driver of the car died later at the hospital.  Highway Patrol said that the driver of the car had been drinking.
SENSELESS!!!
I am leaving at 6:00 am in the morning to ride to Ryan, Okla. for Roger & Linda's funeral.  Funeral is at 10:00 am.  They were CMA members, so I am guessing there will be hundreds of bikes at the funeral.  Bikes will be leading the funeral procession.
Jennie's funeral is pending Frank's release from the hospital.

I am a CMA member in Aurora, IL. It grieves me that I could not show my respect in person, but I tell you, deep inside my soul I am rejoicing at the fact that these people are walking the streets of gold in my Father's house.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

We went to the funeral for Roger & Linda today.  Pretty tough going to a funeral for a husband and wife.  Several of us left the small town where I live at 5:45 this morning and had three stops along the 140 mile trip to meet other bikers.

alejandro, yes we can rejoice in the fact that they are with the Lord!  The sanctuary was full and they had an audio feed to the family life center (which was bigger than the sanctuary).  Both buildings were so full that there wasn't even any more standing room.  There were dozens that had to stay outside.  The small town that they lived in actually postponed the first day of school because of their funeral.  There were approx. 200 bikes in the funeral procession.

It was nice and cool this morning, but coming home around 3:30 it was plenty HOT.  In one of the towns we came through a bank sign said 106 degrees.

Still have one more funeral to go for the other lady killed (Jennie).  The family is tentatively planning for this coming Saturday.  They are waiting to see if her husband will be released from the hospital by Saturday.
