Time for more power
« on: March 08, 2008, 11:01:03 AM »

Gonna see what a Stage 1 A/C with K&N filter along with a custom Race Tuner map can gain me on the SERG.  If I can get the TQ around 90 ft./lbs. I'll be happy.  She's only got a measly 76.6 right now. ???  Gear drive cams are on the agenda for next winter, if not.

More in a week or 2.

14 degrees morning . . . almost too cold to jack with loading the bike in the trailer, let alone ride. :earmuffs:

76.6?  Do you, like, have to remove the tour pak to get started rolling :huepfenlol2: ?

Realistically what improvement do you expect with the air kit and stock pipes Brian?  I've never played with the stroker 95s enough to have a handle on what the expectation might be.

I'm at the office but was thinking the SERG was 72 HP and 90 T before I had it tuned.
I will get the sheet and verify.
Those #'s are sounding a little low Brian.
But then again my #'s above were with the ProPipe and S/E breather and just the Stage 1 download.
I wasn't satisfied with those #'s and was very pleased after the dyno tune.

I'm committed to keeping the stock (quiet) muffs on there.  I know I could gain more with changing pipes or even just changing the baffles in the stock muffs like Scooter did, but I've decided to leave as-is.  There is more restriction at the air intake than at the mufflers on these bikes, anyway, so opening that up should give some good bang for the buck, but still give me a stock look.  I'm hoping to add 10 ft./lbs. of TQ staying with the stock head pipes and muffs, possibly a wee bit more.  We'll see. :nixweiss:

Good luck on getting a nice kick in the seat for relatively minimal investment.  Will look forward to seeing the results :2vrolijk_21: .

Chip, this bike is bone stock with zero mods.  The difference between our numbers sounds about right for the things that had been done to yours.  I'm hoping to get close to 90 TQ with the air cleaner and custom map.  That should give the bike some decent snort for the way I'll use it.

I'm home now and looking at the original dyno sheet.
As I got the bike with the download, the ProPipe and the S/E breather the numbers were,
76.17 H/P and 91.89 Torque. This was with no tune.

I have attached the dyno sheet after the tune.
It is now at 105.18 T and 91.2 H/P
It runs great now but it's going back Monday to the tuner because of the dip at the bottom.
I had to get a different baffle for the ProPipe. The one that came in it was the competition baffle.
The concensus is that I will lose a little torque at the top but get rid of the torque dip at the bottom and gain there.

A/F ratio bounces around quite a bit.  Hopefully, they will be able to smooth it out and take care of the dip without taking away your peak numbers.

I learned from talking to the service manager at the dealer here where I took my bike, there are definitely some tricks to the MM fuel injection.  They seem to know what they are (the tricks), so I've got my fingers crossed for some good results.  Driveability of the bike was excellent, so I hope not to loose that and just pick up some HP & TQ.

I agree, the A/F looks like a roller coaster.
My tuner said it was fine till I got the new baffle and then he would smooth it out.
Good luck on yours!

I haven't seen any proof, but I've been told by a couple of people that those fish tails cause wired thing to happen the the exhaust pules, and makes it hard to get the tune exactly right.

I would think with a good breather and excellent tune, 70/90 is a reachable goal!
