Local sights

No great and fun trip like so many have had the benefit of doing recently.  Unfortunately doesn't look like enough spare time is going to happen for the red bike to do one of those this fall.  But that doesn't mean that the best riding season of the year won't allow a few great days.

Yesterday here was nearly perfect.  Beautiful to look at and be in.  The red bike and I ended up farting around for about 400 miles before the day was done.  Threw the camera in the tour pak when we left and then just ran the back roads all day.  I've kind of got a "thing" for old buildings that are abandoned or have otherwise seen their better days.  Had shot half a memory card full of pictures before I got back.  Don't even know yet if these are anyways near the best.  But they are the ones that caught my eye first.  With any luck someone will remember a day like yesterday that they enjoyed as I much as I did yesterday.

This one is from an old abandoned gas station.  Hasn't been in service since the late 70s.  Pumps have gone for at least 20 years too.  I think I like the old light standards still sticking up there better than anything else.

For some reason whomever owns the property replaces whatever glass is busted in it every spring though.

This one is the same place.  Just brought in closer for a little lonelier look.

This is a great and huge old barn that leans just a little bit more year after year.  Shot several here from a few different perspectives and three sides of the building.  But this one caught my eye just quickly looking through them.

This last one (at least for now) is what's left of an old abandoned road side garage.  The missing roof was casting some really cool shadows on the inside of the building.  I really wanted to frame the bike in front of the big bay door and catch all that light and shadow behind it.  But before I could move from here some little old lady came out of nowhere and scared the bejeezus out of me saying I couldn't play around the building.

Nice photos twolane,

I may need to chat with you in a couple of weeks. I just bought a new Canon Rebel xt
camera and I have just started playing with it. You seem to be purty good with the camera. I bought mine to take pics on rides.

Thanks Barry.

No problem DA.  I play digital on a Canon 10D and film on a 7NE so they'll be at least similar to Rebel.  Somewhere around here are a typed version of the notes from a four night "beginner's photography" class I took a few years ago.  Part of it was pretty helpful.  If you'd like them let me know and I'll email.  It's not too long.

I can't believe that Route 66 sign is still hanging there, as opposed to having ben "relocated" to someone's garage or basement.
