Bitubo vs. Progressive, what length?
« on: June 17, 2009, 03:50:46 PM »

Trying to smooth out the ride of the 09 SERG, I have almost decided on the Bitubo solution. If I decide on this path, what length shocks do I go with, the 300mm or 330? Does the 330's change the posture of the bike as delivered from the factory? Does the majority prefer the Bitubos or Progressives.

Thanks

The stock shocks on an FLTRSE3 are 12" so that would be approximately 300 mm.  The 330s would be approximately 13", so yes they would change the ride geometry.

The minority (me) perfers the Works Street Trackers. Simple to use for a simple guy. Ride is vastly improved over the stock shocks. Not as adjustable as the Bitubo tho. You pay your money for what you want. Any of these are better than the stock shocks.

I'm running the 330mm Bitubos on my SEUC and loving them.

Do not take shorter shocks as 12" .
I tried the progressives 11.5" heavy duty - they did not work - the bike bottomed even when pulling the throttle .

Mine came as 330's.  I told them I had an '09 RG and that's what they sent.  Didn't know there was a choice.

Your stock RG does come with 13" from the MOCO so you should be fine, unless you wanted them to lower the bike.  Doc

Perfect.  Do CVO's come with 12's?

Im running the Progressive 440's 12" Heavy Duty springs- I chose them over the bitubo only for the price. I think they work well, and the ride quality is very good on most roads. The only exception I have is when I hit a deep rut or a break in the road/bridge where the transition drops or rises a few inches- when the 440s bottom out its a harsh landing.

Getting them adjusted properly takes some work too- then when you are adding passenger- and then adding TP and loaded bags its sort of a hassle to take the bags on & off to tune the shocks. Setting them for the most loaded weight, makes for a stiff ride when you ride solo. Getting the set up figured out first time around takes some patience. Too soft the loaded bike tends to waggle a bit in the turns- to stiff and the ride gets harsh-

I like the concept of the bitubo- I'd like to ride a touring bike with them to see how they work. They were just too much money for me to experiment with.

i ran the 12" 440's for awhile. much better than stock. when i had the traxxion cartridge upgrade i went with the 300mm bitubos. a big difference to say the least. of course they are about double the price too. if the bike is a keeper i would suggest the bitubos along with ak-20 upgrade. the best 24 hundred dollar mod i've done.

enough cash will cure anything in this dept

The CVO Roadglide does , yes .

So they're lower?  Your CVO's are lower than my FLTR?
