a sert is a lil black box, it is not permanently fitted on the bike. the sert would be connected by input/output cables between the bike ecm and the dyno tune computer, when your dealership connects there computer to your bike they would see if a sert had previously been connected, if so you will have to ask the previous owner if he/she still has possession of it, it would be of no use to any other bike now.

This or similar is how it should look. And, as ice6900 has said, if it was installed it is only good with your bike.

Ride safely,

You know it's installed by hooking your ECM up to the HD computer. It tells ya what's on your ECM, if it was modified or not. The SERT is not the black box. The black box is the dongle interface that allows you to connect a PC to the ECM, to allow making changes to the stock ECM map. The dongle insures that it's married to only 1 bike, and you must use that dongle at all times to interface with the ECM. The SERT software allows you to make the changes to the ECM parameters thru the dongle by using a PC. There is nothing on your bike to indicate that you have a SERT except what was loaded into your ECM thru this process. If you have no dongle, it doesn't matter if you have a SERT installed or not. Without the dongle, you have no way of interfacing with the ECM anymore if it had been previously installed. Hope this makes sense! ;)

If he doesn't have the PCI (dongle) and the previous owner doesn't have it, then if he still wished to use a SERT, he will have to get a new one and then that one can be "married" to his ECM.

Hoist you explained that perfectly. I know in the short time that I have been a member. A person can be educated on things like the ECM's , downloads, cams, or just about anything on our Bikes. Sometimes I just go back to old threads and read them. Most is very helpful. Thanks for your support......Jeff
