Which number of the VIN shows year?

A friend showed up with a new (to him) e-glide, with 03 Anniversary emblems on the tank.  I took one look and thought, those colors weren't available for the 03 anniversary models.  Plus it didn't have the tape with the tiny HD shields.  I think he got taken on a used bike deal.  Does anyone know which number in the VIN is the year so I can determine what bike he does have?

It could be a shriner bike.  To tell for sure look at the left side of the engine below the cylinder.  It will have a 100th anniversary logo there.  The year number is the 9th one in the Serial number as well.

I'll bet you're looking for a zero where I showed the model year, right?  I think they used a letter for the 2010 model year, "A" in position 8 (10th actual digit).

My '99 FXR3 uses an "X" in position 8 in my VIN, not a 9. It's indicated right in the owner's manual. It's not always a number. ;)

Eighth number from the right is year, I had a chart i used when i was hauling cars, if i can find it i will post it, think it goes thru 2010.

With only one digit it makes it hard to denote a year.  1979, 1989, 1999, 2009.  Hence the need for letters and hope the bikes don't last 30 or more years.

They will now use the alphabetical sequence, with the exception of I (eye)& O(owe).

Vin is different on the 10's Y is gone because they shut down the York plant, I always checked the Number before the Y for the year may be different from now on.
