SECU derby cover
« on: November 18, 2009, 04:08:09 PM »

Call me petty but dang it, why does the SECU not have the 110 Derby cover like the others?  OK, so the floor board may cover it up a tad, but big deal.
So heres the $64,000 question...  How do I get one????  If not from HD, does anyone know a good machine shop / engraver that can make one???

Install the "Ventilator" A/C. The same one that's on the CVO Street Glide. It has both "110" and the words "Screaming Eagle" on it. Of course, the main benefit is that you get substantially better flow throw the throttle body than the stock SEUC A/C.

2009 SERG also came with plain derby cover. Another opportunity for the MoCo to sell you an upgrade.

They were on the SERK3. They might be available now since 110 engines aren't CVO exclusive thru HD. Not sure on that. A dealer can build you a 110. But the 110 badging used to be CVO exclusive when they came out in '07.

I may be mistaken, but I don’t believe that the 110 derby cover is a protected part. Try 60709-07A

VIN restriction won't show up on Chicago HD's (or others I've noticed) web order systems.  Put in the order and, if VIN restricted, they'll contact you after the order to supply the VIN.

Anyone have a picture of the 110 Derby cover? I checked the part #60709-07A in the Harley on-line catalog and there's no such part. Could it be vin-restricted since its not in the catalog?

I took one look at the fuel door, and since it does not lock I changed out the screws to security screws, stars with the post in them.  Sure wish that door would of locked.

I used Chicago HDs parts web site, dropped in the part number I got a few posts back and it came up.   I have not seen a picture, just the list price and then HD Chicago's price.

Where did this part # come from if its not in the MoCo P&A catalog? Does anyone even know if this is compatible with a 2010 SE Touring bike? I haven't been able to find pics of this derby cover anywhere? Anyone have a link?

Hey Ultra2010 I found this in another thread. Is this what your looking for.

I am looking for the 110 derby like the other 2010s have.......  BUT that is sharp looking, not a derby but sharp for sure.      If I can't find one, I may just have someone make one as exact a copy as they can.  I emailed the lazer / engraver someone had posted earlier on this thread but have not heard back from them yet.   Just don't know why HD dropped the ball (again) on SECUs............

I might be crazy but the derby cover is the clutch cover. Its the larger cover on the primary, on the left side ! the points cover is smaller and on the right.

Does not look like it would line up.........  could be wrong (it happens.... often according to my wife) But the part below is not like the 2010s 110 derby cover.   :-\

The derby cover is the clutch inspection cover. Back before 1965 the primary housings were made of sheet metal and the clutch inspection cover looked like a Derby hat; the name stuck.

seriously is not rocket science this is a derby cover. Your bike does not have a inspection cover, that would be at the front of the primary ( the big shiny chrome thingy on the left side or the same side as your clutch. )

Here's one on the bike.

Does it come in red or black lettering or did you paint it red?

Part numbers 60709-07A and 60742-10 were not VIN protected.    The machine turned ring is a great match for the Silver/Titanium SERG.

seriously is not rocket science this is a derby cover. Your bike does not have a inspection cover, that would be at the front of the primary ( the big shiny chrome thingy on the left side or the same side as your clutch. )

Where do I find this "derby cover".  I like this one and noone has posted a link to find it.

The part# for the blue lettered one shown is 60827-07 and lists for around $155.00   .  Don't know the part # for red lettering but is probably just a number off (60828-07??).

60827-07  Blue Text
60828-07  Red Text

These are for the Screamin Eagle Clutch Cover at Chicago Harley.  Just like the 1 above this post.  I ordered mine back in the Summer.  They are not VIN protected.  Just tell them which one you want and give them the old plastic card money number and in about 2 weeks you got it.

Are there any watch-outs for swapping out the clutch (derby) cover? Or is it a straight-forward effort to simply remove the old screws and swap the covers? Can the gasket be reused or is a new one generally needed? Does the cover come with its own new gasket?

Thanks for any advice on making this swap out.

I would change the gasket, you have a 50/50 chance of ripping it and or it leaking. Spend the extra dollar two ninety eight.......   :2vrolijk_21:

The newer bikes take a red oring and you have to take the floorboard (passenger) off to get one torx out.  Get the right size torx bit, the 09's came out with an impact driver and the 10 came out like they should.   On a 09 or 10 bike, I would use over (oring), but that's just me.

I picked up a new blank Derby Cover over the weekend at the dealership. I want something custom, I really like dogs. I lost my Golden back a few months ago so I'm thinking him face and head.

Yeah, Torx screws....they SUCK!  The factory had mine so tight that the first time I removed the Derby cover that 4 screws broke using my impact screwdriver.  Had to drill and easy-out 'em.  Replaced with socket head screws and used Never-Seeze...no issues in 24K miles of primary changes (6 so far).  Also, I reused the gasket - same one as original, no leak.

The coloring on both the chain and derby covers is not standard. It is just a "candy" color, basically see through.

I like the way it came out, you can see the mill marks from the engraving and depending on the lighting the reflected color very closley matches either the light cherry (in sun) or the dark cherrry (shade)
