2011 FLHXSE2 Oil Weight and Noise
« on: September 14, 2010, 07:35:13 PM »

I've had several different people tell me, including the svc mgr at the dealer where I bought the bike that getting that Syn3 out of there and going with the standard 20w50 will decrease "some" of the top end noise and help the bike out when it is heated up good. No one is Syn 3 fans around here at all. I need to change the oil and was wondering if anyone else had made the switch. I've never used Syn3 before and use the standard in my other bikes with no problems.

Any insight? I need to get this done tomorrow for this weekend.

Also, if I do swap from syn to standard, is there anything special to do?

I really appreciate the help.

I would suggest going from (HD) Syn 3, but I wouldn't switch from synthetic oil all together. If you search on the site for Mobil, Amsoil, or Redline you'll find many threads of info praising any of those. Personally I use Amsoil in the crankcase on my bike ('04 SEEG). Since you speaking of oil (fluids) you may want to look into getting lubricants in all three holes that are specific to their purpose. I run Amsoil in the motor, Redline in my tranny (Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof) and primary (Redline MTL).
