Terrie and I rode to the Monterey Bay area and points south for the 4th of July weekend and had a great time. Come along and join us for the ride....

Fishermen's Wharf, Monterey

The best parking spot on Cannery Row.....in front of Sly McFly's

We watched the tourists take pics of our bikes for as long as they were parked there. We were taking pics of them.

And look who showed up.....Ernie & Elana, Marty and Andy & Sherry....

and a blast from the past......just to make you feel young again

After Andy, Ernie, Marty and the girls left, we rode south along the coast.

Just a bit overcast and chilly on Sat. afternoon.......but Sun and Mon the 4th would prove to be very warm.

The surfers were out in force.....photos of them later....

The next morning, Sat......no fog! This is a shot of Montery Bay from Hwy. 101 at Sand City...

We decided to ride to Carmel for breakfast. A quick stop at their beach first.....

This dog could get lost in the sand.....

Looking further south towards Point Lobos......our next stop.

and the wild life didn't seem to be to wild.....

about time for breakfast. A lady on the beach told us about Fryer Tucks on 5th & Dolores in downtown Carmel. The fare and ombionce was nice enough but it's the owner and his twisted sarcastic humor is what keeps them going back. Come on along, let's go to Fryer Tucks.....

Fryer Tucks is a "must" if you're in Carmel.....
This is our approach.....

It was Sun. so it was time for church. Of course we didn't go in......didn't want the roof falling in.

Why sure.....they have b-b-q's at the missions. And it looks like we're just in time

Point Lobos......we have arrived!

As the pictures reflect, the little five minute hike to the top of the point is well worth the exercise.....but it will give you a cardio workout.

Pffiffer Burns State Park

An underground spring flows year around at this location......the only place on earth where a natural water fall dumps into the ocean....(well, that's what I read....if you can believe what you read).

and, probably a good thing, there isn't any access to that beach down there. Pretty much straight up and down.

This is as close as I could get legally (and mainly due to all the poison oak) to where the creek actually drops off the cliff. This is taken from up above, looking down at the creek right at the edge.

Rocky Point.....a nice restaurant....and a very serene setting. Not crowded like other places along the coast.

Packed up on the 4th.....headed back home. To the big valley and those triple digit temps

Stopped at Eagles Nest HD on the way through Stockton........saw this trike and trailer. I'm not really into flames but these were done pretty nice. He made the trailer out of the body of an old servi-car trike.

I hope everybody enjoyed the ride......we sure did and lookin forward to the next one!

Yes, thanks to you and Jock!

But that doesn't account for the hundreds that got deleated......

Just playing with the settings like you suggested Terry.......sometimes taking the same picture three or four times on different settings and then viewing them right away. Just kind of stumblin along but I'm having fun with it.....of course Terrie gets a little short on patience with me and the camera.

Yes, many different kinds (according to the Monterey Bay Acquarium).

Terry, I really owe a huge thank you to you and to Jock. I really did pay attention to a couple of the things you two suggested.

Oh, Jock, I do have a "multicoated filter" over my lens now. Couldn't remember what you suggested other than it be coasted. You said to spend the $ and get a good one.....it was $25.....is that the one?

No lens hood. I mean I have one but it will not fit in the limited space in my tour pack and I'm not ready to give up my ice chest......a man's got priorities ya know.

The same reason I haven't been bringing my long lens but there were sure times on this trip that I wished I'd had it......gonna have to figure something out.

DAMN JC! One word says it all WOW! You have quite the eye and with the new settings...Well...WOW!

I am pleased to read that you are enjoying the new options and I must say they have made quite the difference and have allowed that camera to come alive with your eye!

Only one request...you are killing me with the areas you are traveling...I can not afford to live there so I guess I must travel via your photos...

I know what happened in the Corbin Appreciation thread and I'm about to fix that. In that case, nobody can see the pics except for me.

But in this thread, not sure why you can't see it.....everybody else seems to be viewing them.

When I posted them I was at work and I posted them in "large" format. They looked fine. But looking at them here at home, I notice the right side is cut off.....even if I scroll over to the right. So going forward I'll always post in Medium format.

JC...glad to see that your more pleased with the results from your photography efforts. You've got some beautiful places to shoot in your state...I envy you. It's always difficult to leave a lens at home that you might need. It's even worse when you're packing one bike for two people...most of the time, I can't even bring my "big" camera, so make do with the Canon G10. But, I'm determined to figure out a way to take the body and at least my 16-85 VR with a filter or two. Is your lens hood one of the bayonett types? If so, you can reverse it for storage on the lens and it doesn't take up any more room than the lens.

An alternative is to look around on-line and see if you can pick up a Nikon 18-200 VR lens either new or used. It's probably the most versitile lens Nikon makes, and is a great one lens solution for traveling.

At any rate, the colors and contrast of your images now are much improved!

Great pics JC.

We were walking through Carmel last year and saw a beachside home listed for around $23,000,000.00 (million), with a picture, in the window of a local real estate office. Made me wonder if people who buy $23 million dollar homes usually find them in office windows? I was hoping that when I buy a $23 million dollar house I wouldn't have to get off my rich ass to do anything but sign my name. Maybe I need to learn more and should read up on this just in case. I could learn first hand by walking into the office and requesting a viewing of the property.

Did some quick calculating and figured out that by the time I get $23 million the house will be worth $400 million.
