Kuryakyn makes some that come in black or chrome, and are electric.

Check them out here: V-120 and V-120C Hornet Electronic Deer Avoidance System

As for how well they work I can't answer that. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

We had a couple get taken out by a deer last year.  They were in the back of our group, though there were 2-3 bikes behind them.  A deer came running across an open field, jumped a barbed wire fence and tried to jump them.  They corkscrewed twice after the impact.  Since, several of our members (local HOG) have put on various types of deer whistles.  Since we've not seen a deer since, I can't vouch for their effectiveness.  But, whenever we ride past a herd of cows most will lift their heads and look.  Not one cow has run across the field and jumped the fence to get us! Hi

I have been using the Hornet Deer Whistle for 2 years now & I believe it works.  We have had two specific occasions where we saw deer stop in mid track & turn to look towards us, gave us pleanty of time to slow down.  I have also seen horses turn around in a field as we pass by.

The Hornet is loud & annoys some people who hear the high frequency, me I'm too deaf from years of loud pipes.

Anyway I have one on my Sportster & one on the SE plus one on my wifes Jeep.

Here is their link    http://www.xp3hornet.com/

I did a bit of research a few years ago when I had 12 deer take out 13 cars within a 1/4 mile of my house one fall. They kept going to the last standing corn field during the evening rush hour.
What I remember is that the electrical or mechanical devices work, but vary in effectiveness. The wind whistles don't.
Lots of info on the internet regarding this topic.

I beg to differ there, noVee.  I hit a deer last fall with the Race Car Transporter.  Major damage.  Installed 4 wind whistles I purchased at a Local Truck Stop, (Flying J), 2 on front, 2 on top, per instruction.  This neck of the woods is highly populated with Deer, to say the least.  I've seen Deer react the same way as noted here, when I pass by.  I haven't installed any on Ol' Maudie as of yet, but plan to.  Where did you obtain that information?  Please advise.  Later--HUBBARD

Here's an article that confirms deer whistles to be just another "urban legend."

Lived in Maine for 44 years and we swore by whistles like Hubbard described. I don't give a rat's ass for what some insurance company mouthpiece says, they work. The deer in the " study "were probably unionized and on a break  :D

Hubbard, that was two years ago, so I don't remember other than I was checking the net out for what was available at that time.
The problem with the wind whistles is that they may be only effective at over a certain speed,
that's all I can remember.

Around here, you see a deer cross the road, you better beware cause there can be a dozen behind, all crossing one at a time. The young are at the back and get panicky and will cross regardless of traffic. I see them from my deck. Here ther are 12 in the photo going for the road, but there were more.

Here's the field on the other side of my place, you would think we were farming them!
Oct./Nov., at dinner say around dusk, if we hear a bang, pretty sure we could look out and see one blinking of two front 4 ways, if they were lucky, these suckers can take out your whole front end.

I've used the wind/mechanical version whistles for years...not sure if they work or not, but I've never hit a deer either.  I have seen deer off to the side of the road take off and run the other way while being on the bike.  Now, with my regular vehicles (which I don't have the whistles on) I've seen deer either stand still or jump across in front of me.  So, it makes me believe that there is something to running those things.  A rider was killed a few years ago, not far from where we used to live, after hitting a deer.  Shortly after that is when the whistles went on my bike(s).

I won't ever ride without them...but, I don't let the confidence factor of having them enter into my riding style either.  I tend to ride keeping in mind that I'll be the one to find the only deaf deer in the state crossing in front of me.

By the way, our insurance agent/carrier (State Farm) has given them out for free in the past...one might check with one's agent/companies to see if they do the same.  They must be of the opinion that they work.

THE ANSWER TO YOUR FIRST QUESTION IS:  ASK THE "DEER". MY FATHER HIT A PREGNANT DOE ONE NITE. HE HAD THEM ON HIS BIKE SO ID SAY THAT TYPE DID NOT. BY THE WAY THE IMPACT POPED THE FAWN OUT OF THE DOE NEITHER SURVIVED. MY DAD WAS SEVERLY HURT BUT SURVIVED.
BE CAREFUL UP THERE. [smiley=dier_13.gif] [smiley=beatdeadhorse.gif]
