any adverse affects of 30t gear change?
« on: October 23, 2011, 03:09:02 PM »

So when i took my 2010 in to get the break recall done. i priced the tri-glide 30t pulley and shorter HD belt with the parts guy. then asked the service manager to work me up a price on labor to do the gear change. he said that the last one they did in late 08 had problems. so i asked what kinda problems. he thought that the cruise stopped working, 6gear light wouldn't work, and one of the other dash lights acked funny, now i know he is probly scared of me since most of the time i ask for work to be done"out side of the normal" its with a informed back ground on what i want done, and it usually catches him flat footed.
So has anyone had a problem like the ones mentioned above, can't see a gear change affecting those things.

You will have to recalibrate the speedo, other than that no problem other than the front end comes off the ground effortlessly.

That's the thing about the dealership service departments, if they have prior knowledge of non-factory upgrades they will always try to push blame for issues that direction first ....imo

What shorter belt did you get from HD? There's been a lot of talk about this swap, and the belt you need is a 1" 139T, which HD doesn't make.

I'm with Northstar,  I gotta understand what HD belt you think is gonna work.  I used the triglide sprocket and had to use a 139 tooth belt which I had to order from Drag Specialities.

Will check back here later to see that HD part number........... :drink:

Of course HD doesn't actually "make" any of the belts themselves.  If an HD supplied product there is a Buell belt that's 1" x 139t.  Was on the Blasts.

Looking back in some other threads & a quick search on google shows that a 40056-07 is a 1" 136T belt.
Not sure of the exact years for fitment, but that will only work on some older models, 07 - 08? Perhaps someone could clarify the years of fitment for the 136T belt when making the pulley change.

Can't speak to differences in web, stitch strength or materials but the Buell Blast belt was 1" by 139t.  Have you guy see if there's any data on that belt.
