Picked up my new bike this weekend - YAY!  And LOVE it!  My ONLY issue is the distance of the reach to pull the clutch in!  I'm 5'9", my hands aren't that small (for a chick)!

Luckily we got in some open road riding, but as soon as we got in thicker traffic I got a very sore hand REACHING to pull in the clutch - operation was fine and smooth - just too damn far away!

I realized the lever is very "V" shaped (away from me, increasing the distance from the grip) and assume a straighter one would make me much happier.  I've changed my grips & levers previously on a cable clutch.....can I change just the lever easily on the hydraulic?

Thanks for all input!

I believe the problem is going to be the hydraulic clutch like you mentioned (regarding the lever change).
Hopefully someone can chime in and help you out.

I know some have changed to an aftermarket clutch (regarding the clutch effort)..

I am looking into this in the next month.  I also find the clutch hard to reach and hard to pull and hold.  If you search this site under clutch you will find others that have switched to this and they are very pleased.

Terrie had carpo tunnel surgery on her wrist and then we added the SE clutch plate to her 09 and she had a problem with the clutch at slow speed, parking lot manuvering, etc. just didn't feel like she had the full control of the clutch like she did before.

Jim changed it to the Kuryakn trigger levers and it's made all the difference in the world for her.  Here's the link.....  http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/115/Trigger-Levers

I don't want to go changing the whole thing (spent all my motorcycle $ for the next little while - LOL!) - I don't have problem with the "effort", just the "reach"....

JCZ - that wasn't a hydraulic clutch in '09, was it?

Thanks,

Sandy

There aren't a lot of aftermarket options for levers for bikes with hydraulic clutch.  If you find something that says it is specifically for the hydraulic clutch it should work as a replacement.  Just be careful looking at anything that shortens the throw of the lever.  If you lessen the travel very much at all you'll no longer fully disengage the clutch.

Thanks!  I certainly don't want to screw it up!

Guess I'll just have to buy some kind of Freddy Kruger claw-like glove....... :P

Good catch.  No, it isn't hydraulic clutch.

I was looking just for some levers that are more stylish. I had no luck. The aftermarket hasnt caught up to the hydralic clutch very well.

I think by reducing the effort on the clutch, that as a side effect the reach wouldn't be as bothersome.  Seems like the only decent option for the Hyd clutch.

I'm in the same boat.  Hydraulic clutch is killing my hand.  I did put the ais on my 05 Fatboy CVO and it gave me 25% reduction and saved my hands life.  The 05 had a 103.  My new 12 CVO Street Glide has a 110 which shows only a 7% reduction in pull.  I'm ordering it hoping that's the ticket although I'm greatly disappointed it's only 7%.  Gosh if anyone finds smaller clutch levers for a Hydraulic please let me know because I need them.

the only other option is to go back to hand shift foot clutch

those lock down in the release position so it doesnt really matter how hard they are to push. just push till it locks and leave it there till its time to go
