ECM problems
« on: July 22, 2006, 06:18:50 PM »

Without going into the long, sordid details of my current situation, I was wondering if anyone else has had ECM problems with their bike? I took her in for a Dyno run and found out the ECM is intermittantly acting up. Is this an anomally or something others have experienced?

I've been without my bike for the entire month of July (cams and head work), and was looking forward to getting back in the saddle. Guess I'll have another week of waiting. Unfortunately, patience is NOT one of my virtues.

Can I make a suggestion Gord,

Why dont you give the zippers ECM a 30 day trial you might end up happier with and you would be back to riding :)  just a thought to ponder.

Are you talking about the ECM on your Harley or an aftermarket add on device ala PowerCommander, Techlusion, etc.

Unless your ECM on the Harley you will need to get it fixed..

It's the HD ECM. I currently have the bike at a dealer for warranty repair (remove and replace I assume). They're also going to replace the SERT as it was dealer installed. Haven't received any calls indicating anything different thus far. Fingers are crossed! All I wanna do is ride!!!

Can you be a little more specific on what exactly acting up is.  Perhaps someone here has seen that before.

Wow - when the ECM is bad - nothing other than another ECM can fix the problem.  Was it a sensor or the actual Control Module?

Hope you get your new one - they plug it in and away you go!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

The best way I can describe it is that it seems to be an intermittant problem on the dyno. Everything seemed to run fine and the tuning was working and then it would just drop off. After several (30 total) they were able to run a by-pass with a known good ECM and the runs were good and consistent. It was all explained ini pretty good detail, and it made sense to me. I'm not a tech, and can't really describe it as succinct as he did and make it make sense. Sorry.
