Gear drive cams
« on: July 27, 2006, 07:11:34 AM »

I know Gear drive cams have been discussed and may effect the warrenty.  If the problem that causes the motor to fail is not from the gear drive cams, how can it effect the warrenty?  I have 4 years left on my extended warrenty and would like to still think I had one.  Harley dealers seem to just blame any problems you have on mods and not honot the warrenty.  Next bike, I will save the money since Harley doesn't honor it anyway.

Not every dealer plays that "We are not honoring your warranty because you did aftermarket work"
game. Even with the motor work on the Screaming Eagle my dealer was realistic in addressing any issues I had. You pay your money and you take your chances.

As far as the gear drive cams, if the bike is a keeper, then go for it

Thanks, I do plan to keep it for at least 3 more years. More than likely 4.

I would say in most cases if you blew the heads off or broke a valve or had piston issues they in most cases would not support you, but that generally doesnt mean a good shop doesnt cover electrical / and other types of issues.   I know when I blew out the ecm / regulator and stator they never opened up the cam chest to check which cams I had in there.  This was an expensive bill and all was covered.   I think the only place your rolling your chances unless you just have a chitty dealership is if you needed help on the motor and they opened up the cam chest.   Hopefully that doesnt ever need to be done other than when you rebuild it cause its tired and worn.

Ace 4059, the only problem with Santa is that my wife quit working and Santa seems to be saving for $3 per gallon gas. Oh well, the bike gets good mpg.
