Even after dyno tune with powercommander my bike still popps and bucks and is less driveable than what it should be.Dealer says they have done all they can, including replacing injectors. Has anyone had experience with the thundermax ecm.Zippers has great claims but has anyone here have feedback?

Silver and Black not sure was that a double slap ?

The thundermax would be a fit for you, provided your not chasing some other issue in which case it could end up with the same results you currently have.   Although if you work with Zippers I am sure from the information they can collect they would most likely be able to help you solve the issue provided it was just a mapping issue.

What I would do is call Zippers and at ext 118 is Tony.   Tell him I said hello and that you would like to get the site price for the new Thundermax and make sure they are still offering the 30 day money back guarantee.   Then its just a few screws plugin and map install and your off and running.

If you have any questions or want to talk about it please PM me or email me at cvoseeg@bellsouth.net and I will send you my cell number.

Best Regards,

Don you are partially correct. If Candybrandy waits about 30 days one can purchase a new Thunder Max set up to tune with O2 sensors. I have seen the unit and actually watched it work on the dyno. It is here and it is real. They are working on a few very small deatils on the unit right now as we speak. Once you have a base map downloaded the Thunder Max will tune from there.

Be Safe

THE DAWG

Thats' what many are looking forward to Dawg.  Hardware that can be put on and can be trusted to accurately tune for us in the live environment is going to be a godsend.  Never having to find a tuner you trust and wait for them to have time (whereever they may be) everytime you make some piddling little change is prize worth acquiring.

That does eliminate his need for a tuner (assuming the extra $$$ are ok).  Still leaves the question of making sure there's not a problem elsewhere before spending the bucks on the wrong target though.

Given the reputation of so many dealer/tuners we can't help but worry that the problem resides right there.  You just always hate to be shooting in the dark though when you're talking 800-900 thousand bucks worth of ECM and its attendant closed loop kit.

I have the T-max ecm and have no problems with it. I have a 06 FLHT, I bought the zippers because it was less than a SERT and gave me the option to switch ECM's for any warranty issues. I was running the stock 1450, the Rinehart true duels, SE a/c. The bike ran real good. I had the 1550 kit with 203 cams, Rineharts with quiet baffles and SE a/c. I had to wait till they built a map for the 06's with a 1550 kit, so I tried a Power-commander. I tried several maps and they were ok  but none of them really worked out. I insalled the map that Zippers set-up and couldnt be happier. The bike runs great, never backfires or pops from the exhaust no matter what downhill decel or speed. I checked the plugs last week and they were nice and tan, they are the original plugs.I have had the ECM on for 3K miles. I could have the bike dynoed to see what it does-but I dont care, it runs sweet the way it is.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

CB, if you do decide to attempt tuning with your current Power Commander again one gentleman whose skills are worth taking advantage if the geography is right is John Golden.  His home is only 10 minutes from mine but he spends the season on the rally circuits.  Just copied the following from his website.  So if you'd planned on being in the same areas at anytime try to find Rolling Thunder Dyno.  John is absolutely an artist with these things.  I honestly don't believe it's an exaggeration to say that he's the best in the country.

August 3 - 13  Black Hills Rally Sturgis, SD J&S Tack & Saddle -- Junction Ave.
Take exit #32-we are 2 blocks up on the left.

August 24 - 27  Arkansas  HOG Rally Fort Smith, AR  Kay Rodgers Park
4317 North 50th Street

September 7 - 9  KY HOG Rally  Bowling Green, KY  tba

September 14-17   Arkansas State Motorcycle Rally Hot Springs, AR Parking Lot @
Jones H-D 4446 Central Ave.

October 4 - 8 Myrtle Beach Fall Rally  Murrell's  Inlet,  SC   Inlet Square Mall Swapmeet

October 12 - 22 Daytona Beach Biketoberfest  Ormond  Beach,  FL       Saddle Jack's Bar & Grill I-95 and Hiway US 1

I honestly don't believe it's an exaggeration to say that he's the best in the country.

I'll second that!  In fact, yesterday I put the V in a ride-in bike show (won 1st American Cruiser).  It was a fund-raiser event and had HFD1Motorsports Factory Pro Tuning.  The custom mapped two other Vrods with one of those being a SE.  They asked if I'd be interested and putting my bike up for an analysis.  I agreed since there was no charge.  He asked for my list of my mods and I told him Thunderheader with PowerCommander and custom map.  His wife said that custom maps were his specialty.  The Operator popped up and said, "Well, we're about to see how good a map it is.  We'll see how good he is with this Thunderheader."  I said, "Oh, 'the dip?'  Yeah, it took him a while to get the dip out of it, but we'll see."

In the meantime, I went to collect the money for winning and came back.  When I came back, they were backing the bike off the ramp.  They asked if I would allow them to print my graph with TK's vrod on it as a comparison.  I asked, "Was the map ok?"  He shook his head and said, "Oh yea, it's good."  Then he told TK something like, "She's got something else in there.  It's more than just a Power Commander."

I think he tried to find something wrong with the map.  He tried to get it to pop and crackle and to drop HP drastically.  Golden took a LOT of time getting it just right.  You could tell an immediate difference at low rpm.  My bike had more HP and torq than the other SE Vrod after he did the custom map for the owner!!

Jerry, your bike symptoms sound like an exact clone of mine. Hopefully one of us can get it figured out.My dealer has probed all sorts of wires, bypassed the ecm with a test one, tested another coil etc. When I do minor changes to the face plate buttons on the PCIII it seems to help for awhile ,then flares back up.I feel your love-hate relationship all the way. Keep me posted. Thanks,CB
