Finally.....back on the road!!
« on: August 08, 2006, 11:12:24 AM »

After 6 weeks of no bike (3 due to engine mods, 3 because of tuning difficulties), I'm in the saddle again. I installed the Redshift 575 gear drives and had the heads reworked. All I can say is Wow!!! Awesome power and response right where advertised.

Love it and can't wait to ride further than just back and forth to work.

Glad you got it back on the road and running good.  You may have said in another post but who did the head work?  What kind of numbers are you putting out?

Enjoy! [smiley=cherry.gif]

Gordito,
Glad to hear you back on the road, and liking your upgrades. What was the final verdict on the tuning issues? I remember reading about them, but don't remember what/if you found out what was the issue.

Kinda depends on who you ask. The tuners say I have an intermittant ECM problem. The HD tech says there is no problem since the Digital Tech read both the ECM and the race tuner. I was able to get the map downloaded and she runs fine (although maybe a little lean off the line in the heat of the day).

To be honest, I'm almost afraid to take her back for fine tuning and have them tell me it's still AFU. I'll ride for awhile first.

After being w/o your scooter for as long as you have I don't blame you there. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Umm all i can say is Headwork??   That cam was really not designed for headwork while it may run fine, I would be very interested in what the numbers were and what exactly was done to the heads.   This was supposed to be a bolt in cam.   What is  your compression set to ?

Inquiring minds

Update:

It was, in fact the tuning. Took her back and had the fuel/air mixture richened a bit and she runs like a champ.

Glad to hear you got the ride back and the tuning set.  Now burn some hours before summer is gone [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

The heads were ported, polished and milled. The compression is 10.375. According to the tech guys at Zippers, the cam will (and does) perform right where they said it would.

I suspect the problem is in the tuning. When I leave for work a 0530, she runs fine. In the heat of the afternoon, she has a hiccup when I take off. [highlight]Why do you think headwork?[/highlight]

I think he was thinking that this cam was designed to raise cylinder pressures without any head work. The port and polish and valve work should not effect but actually enhance the install of the 575 cam. It is when you mill the heads you need to keep an eye on your static pressures. If Zippers says it is fine IT IS FINE!!!!!

Glad you are back in the saddle again ENJOY!!!!

Be Safe
