CVO "Chopper".....when???
« on: July 23, 2004, 09:38:17 AM »

OK, the 2005 CVO's are out of the bag.....zzzzzz!
WHEN is Harley going to wake up to the current Chopper-craze and offer one of its own?

Another Forum is advocating that they've heard Harley has hired Jesse James to design one for them, which would be really cool  [smiley=1syellow1.gif], but - if so - WHEN will it be available...after the market's saturated?? [smiley=furious.gif]

I plan to always keep my 2003 FLHRSEI2, but in addition, a CVO Chopper with their (non-production) 120" motor and their (non-production) 6-speed tranny would be awesome! [smiley=1syellow1.gif]

Any thoughts, comments and add'l. insight/info. would be appreciated from the Group.
Thanks, and Ride Safe!  [smiley=biggthumpup.gif]

Rumor has it Harley will be unveiling a "new model" at Sturgis this weekend...maybe (hopefully) a 'Chopper" with their JIMS 120" motor and 6-speed tranny, and all offered through CVO???.......I must be dreaming, right? [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]
Comments, anyone?

I'm with you, I hope they introduce a chopper at Sturgis.  Not saying that  I wil get one tis year, but I just think that it will be a nice line for them.  Too many high dollar spenders going elsewhere.

I received a questionaire in the mail mack in January asking a bunch of questions about choppers and I would I purchase a chopper from HD.

For a company that tries to shake every nickel out of your pockets, I can't believe that they would wait another year and watch people spend their money elsewhere.

I have noticed that several HD Dealers in the Dallas area have Choppers on the show room floor.  They have HD drivetrain with after market frame and sheet metal.  Each has a custom paint job.  The manufacturer's name is Thunder Mountain, but I am sure HD has something to do with it or they would not be on the dealer showroom floor.   [smiley=shocked2.gif]

The H-D Dealer I go to also offers a "custom buit" Chopper service using kits they'll assemble for you (for a handsome fee, of course). I'm sure this is something they're doing on their own to carve off some of the cash cow Chopper market right now, and is not an H-D Corporately sponsored thing (actually, probably frowned upon by H-D Corp!).

Let's see if they do unveil something new in Rapid City, SD tomorrow when they open their Sturgis Show at the Convention Center there.

IF they do, I'm hoping it is a "CVO Chopper"! [smiley=1syellow1.gif]

Just my opnion here guys.  HD is not going to hire Jesse James or any of the other builders that's built a name for theirself.  There will not be a "chopper" production, either.

The CVOs are Harley's vision of the "factory custom" and they're doing well with that program.  The CVOs or "factory customs" will continue to be a part of Willie G's vision and that of his team.

Just my opnion guys.  I realize it doesn't help to promote the gossip cycle, but I think it's closer to reality.

Party Pooper!  [smiley=cry2.gif]  But....you're probably right.

I still find it very hard to believe that our favorite big (greedy) Motor Company, whom we all love dearly, would let this "cash cow Chopper craze" go by without stabbing off their share of the (profit) beef.

Only time (or a really good inside source) will tell.
Until then, ride safe! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Well, it doesn't look like it'll be at Sturgis (too close to the new 2005 model intros, anyway).  Maybe at Daytona in March??? [smiley=confused5.gif]
Guess we'll all just have to wait and see. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

No "secret new bike" unveiled at Sturgis.
What about at Daytona in March, the tradition "unveiling" for H-D of any new bikes (outside their new model year offering in July)?....anyone...anyone...?

You guys seem to be fantasizing about having something made for you. Whattareya? Nuts?

Take my bike for example - remove the baggs, put them nicely on a shelf. Remove the tour pak, store it as well. Take off the heavy wheels - including the tarnished polished job only 8 mo. old?, remove the front forks, take off the huge headlamp, take a look at removing the floor boards - set up the bike with a collector pipe, use the lowered design, rake out the front a bit, add a fattie on the back, and sync everything from there.

This is what was done in old-school 60's shops. The frames weren't customized with gold paints and globs of poor welding left behind. These old frames were "do what you can to it, in the factory or in your shops". The old panheads show off these frames, nicely.

If I decide to go with a chopped version of my bike - guys, you'll have to see it to believe it. May take a while, we'll grow a few extra gray hairs, but it'll be worth the wait. I need a bike in my garage I can ride, and it has to be less the 740 lb. like my clunker currently is...

Wonder what HD would say if they'd see my 103" framed up with my version of what I want to bike to do and look like?

"Hydraulic clutch on a chopper?".... (cool)

Everyone personalizes their bikes to their tastes and budgets.  If you were to start out with a different frame and wheels, forks, motor, tranny and fenders; it may be more economical to start from scratch and incorporate the good features that you like on your SERK. I know that you are having a few problems with fit and finish on your SERK.  Harley can be difficult to deal with on these items.  Persevere, you will succeed.
