Vance & Hines Pro Pipe - broken baffle
« on: September 10, 2006, 05:06:35 PM »

After 7,000 miles the baffle fractured from the end cap on my Pro Pipe HS.

I enquired with the supplier (Wally's Cycle) and they just said that I need to order Complete Megaphone section for part #V17533 Pro Pipe HS at $379.95 shipped to the UK. I decided to have it welded but at 8,000 miles it went again.

I was out today and lost both endcap and baffle on the motorway so now I will have to replace the Complete Megaphone section for part #V17533 Pro Pipe HS.

Do you think I should just buy another?

This means accepting that periodicaly I will need to replace it.

Are these things not up to 10.1:1 compression & 124 BHP on a modified 103"?

BC Gerolamy were against Thunderheader due to a torque curve dip. This is not the first pipe I have broken, I broke a Supertrap where the pipe meets muffler on my Ultra & Supertrap made me buy again with no help.

What is it with these things ... can they not handle 120+ mph?

Shouldn't the manufacturer offer to replace?

Tony,
Don't know what to tell you about Vance & Hines never heard of this happening before. I had them on my Fatboy w/competetion baffle and loved them (granted I wasn't making as much HP/TQ that you are). You may want to look into the D&D Fatcats. Check out the threads below for pictures, and thread that DCFIREMANN has concerning the upgrade/build he did on his pumpkin and has this pipe installed. The last link was a group discount offered on the D&D Fatcats.

Yeah, like we never see them break !  ;D

Actually......  I don't remember hearing of a set of them break in the last several months.  Maybe they finally got their issues taken care of  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] ?

I have managed to secure a replacement muffler only to fit onto my existing header pipes from Wallys Cycle World
