09 CVO Paint issues rusty squigles??
« on: April 19, 2014, 01:17:53 PM »

Has anyone with the 09 cvo springer ever had issues with the paint where you have light rust squigles under the clearcoat?
If so is this a problem Harley corrected with either a recall or repaint or did they just leave it and say it ads to the character of the 09 cvo motorcycle?
I was wondering if you send the part to harley if they will repaint or send another painted part.
thankyou

You will find that every bike Harley has put out with clear coat over bare metal has had problems with rust under the clear.  The CVO Fatboy, the CVO Springer, and most recently the CVO Breakout have all had the problem.  It was a very bad idea they should have abandoned after the Fatboy, but since they still offer it on the Breakout they obviously haven't learned yet.

I'm not aware of any official service campaign under which Harley is taking care of this on bikes that are out of factory warranty.  You could call them and ask of course.   (800) 258-2464  or  (414) 343-4056.

Has anyone had experiences with contacting harley, replacements after warranty etc? I would like to have it fixed but don't know how to go about it especially after warranty and being the second owner.
thankyou again

I had this issue 2 years ago on my 2009 Springer CVO.  The problem was on both the headlight bucket and the rear fender.  I took it to the dealer and they tried to cover it under my extended warranty but it was declined.  So I went and called Harley Davidson customer service directly and began working with the same person each time I called.  I NICELY explained that I bought a premium bike with a premium paintjob and even bought a 5 year warrantly, so I was a good customer (also this was my 3rd new Harley).  I took pictures of the areas and sent them to my customer service contact.  She approved the replacement of the 2 parts with brand new painted ones.  All I had to do was pay $100 for each part that was replaced (supposedly to cover dealer costs).  Hope you have good luck!

Thanks for the info but it doesn't look like I will have the same luck especially where I am not the original owner they want me to purchase a new part for $800-900 and this is for just a front fender, can't believe I will have to pay when it is a factory defect which gradually shows up through the years I guess they hoped you just forget about it rather than issue a recall when this problem arose.  Alot of people pick up on it when they look at the paint, kind of irritating though and always explaning that harley won't fix it, this is where they lose future business I guess, Oh well thanks for the info.

I Had All My Tins Replaced While Still In Warranty Because Of This Very Issue. Sadly, I Recently Saw  It Has Begun Again On The front Fender.
