Help, can't figure it out..
« on: December 22, 2014, 02:17:29 AM »

For over a year now occasionally when I take of from a complete stop there is a loud "grinding sound" coming somewhere from the primary area. I have told the shop and my tech that I do like and trust about it and they have not been able to replicate. To be fair, it only happens on occasion sometimes only happening once or twice on a 300 mile day but sometimes (like today) it seems to happen about every 4th start. Never effects performance though it does seem like the clutch gets "grabby" when it does happen but not sure if its me reacting to the sound which is fairly loud. About 8 months ago my tech told me that when he changed my oil, a small kinda round metal piece came out that he had no clue what it was. After that it did not do it for a couple of months so I figured that the piece of metal was somehow floating around and when I would stop sometimes that the sound was that piece rubbing on something. Very frustrating and more important I am worried whatever it is will cause major damage some day! I have put well over 15000 miles on it since it stared making the sound with no further issues though.
Anyone else go though this or know of anything?

A friend with a 124 / Scorpion / DD7 Skunk (averages 30k+ mi /year) had an issue similar to what you describe ( except that his seemed to be making the noise more often than yours ). He tried different fluids in the primary to some (temporary) success ~ he is running a solid sprocket. He called Barnett a couple of times and they ended up sending a new set of plates and told him to remove two (stock) rings behind the plates / clutch (I'm not sure exactly what / where they were as I wasn't there when they tore it down). After this, he tells me the clutch is perfect. He did tell me that the "removing the rings" part was not in Barnett's original install instructions. Barnett did stand behind their product 100%!! all is well now. Long story short, you might want to call Barnett...

mine has been doing that since i had the compensator replaced (third one) sounds like kick stand dragging??? squawk noise,  i have a MW Bandit clutch no issues with it, always has worked/felt the same since installed. after the hollidays its going in for exploratory surgery, would be nice to get some more opinions on things to check.    NGHawg says he has same noise,

I just read in another post earlier today that Baker is coming out with a replacement compensator. I find this news encouraging.

I am at 24000 miles on the 2013 SERK. But I am starting to get nervous about it. Especially with a 2 week trip from South Louisiana to Sturgis then on into Montana and back down through Yellowstone and Colorado coming up this August.

When they changed the primary fluid a piece of metal came out and no further investigation was done??  Seems to me that the primary cover should have come off to see where that metal came from. But that could just be me.....
