Title: 117 Stage 3 upgrade on '17 CVO Limited - Stock Dyno for my baseline
Post by: Heatwave on November 18, 2016, 05:09:18 PM
My 2017 CVO Limited went in the shop this afternoon for a Stage 3 upgrade. 117" cylinders, 11:1 comp pistons, SE-498 cam, Hi-perf valve springs, Hi-perf tappets, Street Tuner, SE Street Cannons + CoolFan install. The shop ran a baseline dyno with the bike completely stock. The stock bike looks pretty strong with 86hp/115ftlbs SAE on the 5th gear pull. Rips terrific with 110ftlbs from below 2000rpms straight from the factory. Can't wait to see the trq at 2000 with the new upgrade. Anyone want to guess the performance after the upgrade? It might be awhile since I won't do a hard dyno run until the engine is broken-in with a few hundred miles after the upgrade.

I will be curious to see the results, it should be a good improvement.  The low end torque is impressive and can be felt just riding them stock.  I have 6350 miles on my 17 SESG.

I have seen from the Web site, and the Screamin Eagle catalog.  I would much rather see the results on an actual customers bike.

My Guess:
After - 117 T, 109 HP

Notice your results are very close to what Harley published in their stock versus Stage III chart.  As I've noted in the past, those charts they show in the catalog for the stage kits are in fact pretty accurate.

I can tell you that with the 117" kit in my '17 CVOSGSE, it compares real well to my '15 CVOSGSE that Fuel Moto dynod with TW777 cams, mild port polish heads and full FM exhaust was 110 hp,126 TQ

As would I.
The original poster was asking for numbers and from what I am hearing from tuners and reading on other forums the HD numbers are very close.

I have the stage 3 117 on my 17 SG and a 124 on my 12 RG. Motors run completely different with the 17 crazy strong down low but runs out mid 4's in RPM and the 124 needing to be above 3 to really run. Of course the 124 runs stronger (Dyno at 140 hp and 132 tq) but even with the cat still in there the 17 runs amazing. I was worried when I got the 17 that I would be disappointed since I intend to keep this bike under warranty for the full 7 yrs (RG at shop now getting its 4th motor in 50000 miles..) but other than the sound, I love the new bike and love the low end grunt. I would tell anyone thinking about doing the 117 kit that if your riding style will really use it than the money you will spend on it will be well spent.

Are Harley's charts in the SE catalog at the crank, or rear wheel?

Rear wheel as stated on the chart.

Rear wheel as stated on the chart.

Looks like it says corrected rear wheel on the chart.  I would like to know whats corrected?  Chart also does not say if SAE or STD which is a good size difference.  That may be what they think rear wheel is based on average drive train loss.  We just do not know.

my thinking is with a decent pipe 120/120, and there is a the learning curve that every one is going to have to go thru, so performance may be crazy good with this new head a year or so down the road

Jerry as usual you are correct again. I just did a 17CVO M8 117'' today with Fullsac Cores, Stock header. We got 107.8/118.9. STD was 110/121
