Just my two cents, I think the issue of stopping ( without putting your feet down ) comes from an exercise that is taught by MSF, during the BRC (Beginner riders course); it is called a pause and go. You are instructed to pause between two cones ( without putting your feet down), the relationship to street riding would be you are traveling in heavy stop and go traffic, the idea is you don't have to put your feet down everytime you stop. It by no means is taught as a stop sign technique, but perhaps that was her interpretation of this excercise.

When we were in York at the GTG,one of our members riding a Blue SEUC² (with the initials V a B) dropped his bike because he did not come to a complete stop behind me. I came up to the intersection at a stop sign and the bikes in front had done a rolling stop. I always come to a complete halt. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the BIG dump truck coming. Well, Mr. Vags saw the bikes in front of me doing the rolling stop and was about to go when he saw me stop. I guess he wasn't prepared for it and all I saw was blue in my rear view mirror going down. No one got injured, but that truck could have done a lot of damage.
Ride your own ride. Don't let the person in front of you influence your decisions. It's your butt that's gonna pay.

here in SC the law states at least one foot down for a complete stop.

and group riding  :nervous: :nervous:   that's another issue.

whatever you do, make it safe

I find using the brakes seems to be the best way to stop....I 'm just saying...

I always thought on the oldster you just dragged your feet...

I agree however, brakes are about the best thing to stop with.  Way better then a wall or some other immovable object.

couple of points...

I use the brakes to stop.  No draggin' the feet to stop for this fellow...

The wife rides up front.  Always the least experience up front.  It gives us old farts a better example to follow than our own bad habits.

Feet down.  period.  I keep the feet up for as long as I can just to see how well I do before I start to tilt. Then the feet go down.  However, I don't even LOOK for the cross traffic until the feet are down.  Just a habit to make myself actually LOOK, (as opposed to to thinking about keeping the bike up while I act like I'm looking and don't really see that rig that's gonna whack my ass...)

JMO, but pretty strongly felt since the day I did it wrong...      won't happen again on my watch...

I don't care to hit movable objects either...

Ok then, I will go back & look at my old "Poll" thread instead.

start a poll - who uses their feet to stop, who uses their brakes?  I am betting half helmet wins.
