Got this in an email today. Not saying I agree with all of it but thought provoking none the less.


Hey guys....facts are facts!!

This has to make you think a little bit, if not then keep your blinders on!

George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years.

The first six the economy was fine.

A little over one year ago:

1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high

2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon

3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

4) the DOW JONES hit a record high--14,000 +

5) American's were buying new cars, taking cruises, vacations o'seas, living large!

...But American's wanted 'CHANGE'! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress & yep--we got 'CHANGE' all right.

In the PAST YEAR:

1) Consumer confidence has plummeted

2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing!

3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase)

4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS & prices still dropping

5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

6) as I write, THE DOW is probing another low~~11,100--

$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS!

YEP , IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE!...AND WE SURE GOT IT!!!....NOW OBAMA, the DEM'S CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT--AND THE POLLS SAY HE'S GONNA BE 'THE MAN'--CLAIMS HE'S GONNA REALLY GIVE US CHANGE!!....JUST HOW MUCH MORE 'CHANGE' DO YA THINK YOU CAN STAND???.....

Do not forget, we got a do nothign congress with a lower apporval rating than Bush....

Also, most people forget that a Company, Corporation or small business does not pay tax.  What ever tax that they are forced to pay, is payed by the consumer.  If you raise tax on say Tobacco companies, they then pass that on in the cost of a pack of smokes.  Same goes for Harleys or any thing else you purchase.

I have been and AM a small business Owner. I don't funding the war efforts overseas, I just hate it doing all by myself.

That is a huge understatement!   I've owned two businesses over the last 15 years and the taxes are incredible. Between the mountains of paperwork and the no time extensions on payments. The government doesn't care if you haven't been paid for the work you've done. They don't care that your customers pay in 45 to 90 days. They want their payments and that is just how it is.  Pay on time or pay the fines.

Pass on the costs!! raise prices and there goes sales out the window. Most of the time you have to lower your margins to maintain the current customer base.

Perhaps owning a contracting/construction business is different then other businesses but I doubt it. I never minded paying taxes, it's the price of living in a democracy, or a republic if you prefer, but small businesses, those classified as less then 500 employees, pay a hell of a lot of taxes every month and yes you do get sh*t taxed out of you....

Taxes will be an important debate topic in this election.

Unfortunately, to get that rhetoric beyond the talking point/debate position mode is determined by congressional action.  And this Congress is not a stellar example of much of anything.  But if they continue to do nothing, taxes will go up dramatically on many small businesses after the Bush tax cuts expire.
