Install of CB module on 2018 CVO Road Glide
« on: May 01, 2018, 02:09:21 PM »

Has anyone installed the CB module on the 2018 2018 CVO Road Glide? My dealer is saying the CB modules do not function with the BOOM Audio on the 2018 as they did on 2017 and previous model years. The controls are included on the right handlebar and the radio has a pop up saying that "No CB Module Found". If anyone has done an install I would appreciate any info you can forward as to which module you purchased and if it was simple plug and play or did the radio require a flash update?

I saved my CB off of my 2015 FLHTK, and installed it on my 2018 FLHTK by just plugging it in.

I did have the lighted hand controls installed at delivery, which included the PTT button.

Great to hear, but the dealership tells me that the FLH is the only model which the CB will function on?! It just doesn't make sense to me that the controls are included, the radio pops up stating "no module installed".

Did you install an external antennae or was there one inside the fairing?

How is the range bike to bike?

Cheers

The Ultra Limited was wired for the CB antenna, all I had to add was the mast, which I also kept.

I haven't ridden it around anyone else to test range.

I also installed the WHIM, but had to unplug it.  I found the headsets inadequate for my riding style, and the wired mic didn't work until I unplugged the module.  This had no effect on the BOOM seeing the CB module.

I honestly don't know why the BOOM wouldn't recognize the CB, even on the CVOs, but they've done some weird stuff in the past.

As usual dealers is clueless.  The CB module I installed on my 18 CVO Road Glide works just fine.  Did not even have to have head unit updated, it recognized it right a way.    I did a month later have the dealer switch the PTT with the Cruise.

Notice your bike did come with the PTT button.

here is how I set up my antenna.

I see nothing much has changed, still can't trust a dealership to know anything about the product but they are more than happy to spew bad information by the boatload.

what they're really saying is, 'i don't have a clue how to do this, and since it is not going to be a high demand service, i am not going to take the time to research it so that i can help you out and earn a little money in the process'

That is exactly the one I installed.  One little mounting screw is a real pain in the ass.  Run it in and out a couple times before putting the module and bracket with it.  The rest was very easy.  Tank comes off easy to run antenna wire under it in wire tray.  Antenna and mount are not included.

Thanks for the confirmation Dave, ordering today. Great job on the antennae install, very clean. Looking at the HD antennae description it does not mention cabling as included, did you order separately as well?

Yep, had to order the cable from CB to the Antenna.  This is the third bike I have done it to.  I did it to my 17 CV"O Street glide, then I also did it to my wife's Road Glide Special.

Where did you get the bracket that holds the antenna?  I need one of those.

Glad I found this post! I am getting ready to add this exact PN  CB module to my 2018 FLTRXS. I know this is the CVO users group but to your knowledge is there a difference between the CVO and the regular FLRXS wiring harness?
Thanks

There is no difference in the wiring for installing the CB on either bike. You will have to get the right control module that has the PTT button. FLTRXS models don't come with it.

Ok, Thanks for the reply. My bike already has the PTT button on the right grip cluster. I get the 'no module installed, see your dealer' when I push it, so if I install the module and antenna cable etc I should be good to go right?
