2014 CVO problems
« on: July 14, 2014, 05:03:21 PM »

I have a 2012 CVO Ultra and I'm thinking about trading it for a 2014. Are there any problems out there I sould be aware of with the new faring and all that goes with it?
I'm just not sure about the first year out on the radio and controls.

Thanks for any info.

Any first run usually has some problems but by now you hope that they've got them all taken care of.

That would be a first------Harley taking care of their problems in the "first" year??

There have been basically 4 issues:

Hose clamp radiator
Filler tube wasn't tall enough
Radio issues, various
Front brake line could be pinched under tank

All were/are easy and fast fixes and if you had all 4 issues it takes about an hour to fix all 4.
But, any bike you got now would have all those corrected when it was built.

I recommend getting a 14. I love mine.

And for the first time the ABS breaks are great and actually shorten the break distance compared to the junk prior to 14.

A few minor recalls per above. All a none issue on my MC but still had it checked out.

I just bought a 2014 cvo limited 3 days ago. Problem free with 175 miles on it. As a member of the Blue Knights LEMC many of my brothers bought the 103 liquid cooled limiteds when they first came out. They all had one or more of the above said problems with the bikes. Now however, most all problems have been fixed and they enjoy their bikes. I rented a 2014, 103 limited last Friday. While I was there one of the salesman I know showed me the cvo limited that had just come in and was the blue color. I had wanted to see the blue in person and it had everything you want in a bike. My intention was to wait to see what the 2015 models HD would offer up and then make a decision. I rode the 2014, 103 limited home and it was an awesome ride. I loved the bike. Found out from some friends that the cvo limited bikes were selling out fast and that many of the dealers were selling them above msrp. Sure enough when the salesman contacted me I was told a price $2000 above msrp. When I told him I would wait to see the 2015 models of course he said he would see what he could do. After a couple of times back and forth I was headed down to buy the bike. Now having rode the 103 that day, when I rode the cvo 110 home I had a smile from ear to ear as it rides like a dream and the power, the power increase was very noticeable. With the lean years behind, dealers are not going to give anything away. No buyer remorse here. Made the right decision this time. Time to ride in the Space coast of Florida.

Not a good thing when someone is happy being trouble free for 175 miles. Hope he can say that many thousands later. :2vrolijk_21:

Bought mine September 2013.  I will roll over 15 K this weekend.  (good timing to do service before Sturgis)

Did the recall / product programs with no problems experienced beforehand.  Other than peeling "chrome" on water pump housing no issues.  I ask the dealer to replace than when I get the service and Front Brake recall done.

Cruddy XM reception occasionally when heading a certain direction.

The pluses far outweigh any nit picks, IMO.

Cheers,

Mark

2000 trouble free and very happy kilometres on mine. Best bike I have owned by a huge margin. I also had a little chrome peel on the water pump housing changed under warranty.

I took delivery on a 2014 CVO limited on 6/26/14.  680 trouble free miles.  The 681st mile was not. On 7/12/14 traveling at about 35 MPH I heard a  pop or snap, the bike lost power.  It sounded like it was running on 1 cylinder.  Pulled to side of the road.  Tried starting again.  It did start, but clearly there was trouble.  Shut it down and called for help.  The dealer picked me up in about 1/2 hour.  Went to dealer to check on progress yesterday (Tuesday).  Catastrophic rear cylinder head failure.  Broken valve guide, broken spring, bent valve, piston damage, etc. They are not sure which part failed first causing the chain reaction.  Dealer ordered a complete new rear cylinder. Should be done today or tomorrow.  Will report back.

Ouch, that hurts. Hope all works out with motor. 225 miles to date, trouble free and enjoying my new ride. My motor does have the dreaded tick sound at certain rpm's, but with the Vance & Hines pipes all is well. I knew what I was getting into when I bought the bike last week. Bought the 5 year extended warranty.

Took delivery Apr 17. 11,235 mi. Not 1 issue requiring repair. XM reception is very poor. The chrome/plastic water pump cover is showing some rash. I'm of the opinion that the cruise and ptt switches should be reversed, but I can live with it. So far so good. Very impressed with this machine.

I agree with the cruise and ptt switches.  Takes some getting used to.  2000 miles and all is well.  Did the brake recall (40 min in-out).  Would like better mpg.
