heated hand grips on a SESG
« on: March 17, 2010, 10:54:56 AM »

Hi...

I had some heated hand grips on my old 08 street glide that i was very satisfyed with.
it was the standard aftermarked type "flame" they all have in the store. part no http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?WebLogicSession=GkkFl4byEIt1jN1Ai4FTCsGyTsX2253wfRgX6APHrFlR7zepDVuI!82219858!181237811!7005!8005&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448647381&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302292479&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302292479&bmUID=1189372934557&bmLocale=en_US 56047-03C
Now on the new SESG i whant to have some heated hand grips cause of the cold weather we have here in Norway.
The dealer told me that there ar NO on that will fit on on this bike. They was also not shore if Even the org CVO electra heated hand grips would fit on the SESG.

So my qust is. Have anybody any idea or opinion regarding this "problem"
Will it be possible to install heated hand grips on a SESG ? aftermarked type or CVO Electra ?

-Cold Norwegian
looking out the window and sees the snow is melting.... slovely and countdown to a new spring on a new SESG  :)

Cheers

Hi Barek
I read here or somewhere else that somebody got 2010 CVO Ultra heated grips from his dealer (was not easy but possible). My dealer will try to get these grips (they match in style) as well. On the U.S. HD parts site, several heated grips are available for the 2010 SESG: http://www.harley-davidson.com/browse/browse_products.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309369520&bmUID=1268852060747&bmLocale=en_US&page=2
Maybe you should have some serious talk with your dealer.
Regards, Klonko

They are looking in the P&A book and it says "not for internally wired handlebars (or something to that affect)" and just saying what the book says. This has always been in the P&A book even when these same grips came stock on the CVO's from the factory.

BTW - It has been well documented here the problems w/longevity of these grips. Not many have had them last (continue to work).

Case in point of what I mentioned in previous post about durability/dependability of the H-D heated grips.

Heat demons is the way to go. Do it once and forget about it. :2vrolijk_21:

Some models have been in the past.. I know the SEEG, CUSE have been internally wired. If you are changing the bars anyway and are concerned about matching grips you can use your existing grips and use the Heat Demons as they aren't grips, but fit under the grips.... and they will be more dependable/durable then the MoCo heated grips.

I was one of the guys that got the 2010 heated grips on my SESG. I had them Put on right away so they would be covered for the term of the warranty. They can change them 50 times as far as I care. I have always had the H-D heated grips for as long as they have offered them. Ive had to replace a couple times. Last time I got a pair they were good ones. They have run over two years. Still working for the guy that bought my bike. If I couldn't get them with my warranty however I would seriously consider the heat demons.

Thanks for the info.

I just was down at the dealer and checked up wiring on both SEUC and SESG. They have the same cabling and trottle devices. same part no on both. BUT when i took a look inside the right handlebar on my SESG i noticed that the grip heater connection plug was not mounted in as it should have been. But according to the books it seems that i only have to replace the outer part of the trottle device with an other one with the connection plug for the grip heater. If that is correct it saves a lot of hours of work. I'll have this verifyed by next week.
I also got some info that the SEUC grip heater from sometime back in 09 and up is more reliable than the older one. Just a note i got from the dealer.

On my 08 StreetGlide, I Have used the MoCo aftermarked flame heating grip for two year with out any problem so for me they have been good.

Else i will have i look at the Heat Demon and use the orginale SESG grips...
But as far as i have reading here it's mush hassle to get it to work correctly...
