HOG Pin Stops
« on: March 23, 2005, 02:05:44 PM »

The Hog Pin Stops, this year, will be giving out patches instead of pins.  What do you think?

I'd rather have a pin.

I can't sew either [smiley=nixweiss.gif], so I'd like the pin [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif].

Thanx for the poll. I would guess; it would take more time to get the pin done than the patch, but I would still prefer the pin even if it wasn't finished before the ralley.....reo

What generally takes the most time in the development of the pin or the patch is artwork and approval because it is done by committee.  Mold making processes are a couple of days including sculpting.  Pre-production proof again depends upon the committee. The casting production time is such that they can be done in one to three weeks depending on scheduling and additional processes such as plating and antiquing.  The patches which are now sourced in China take about the same time with air freight.  The problem with them are the amount of room they take up on the vest and the additional money to get them sewn on for 3-5 bucks per patch.

Hey Mike
Sometimes when you don't feel appreciated go back and reread Reo's post!
That's as strong a compliment as a man can get!
And I feel the same way!

A couple of advantages the patch has over the pin on a vest:  1)  folds up to go into a saddlebag w/o snagging on other pins, or scratching something like the bikes paint and 2) doesn't add appreciable weight to the vest as the collection grows.   [smiley=verkleidung056.gif]

I've got pins here and there from over the years.........but not too many HOG pins.  Just haven't seem to ride with them for quite a number of years.  The patches that I have on my vest all say the same thing "I Rode Mine, Milwaukee",  "I Rode Mine, Hollister", "I rode Mine, Sturgis",  "I rode mine, Reno", etc.

I do have one patch that says "04 Screamin Eagle Electra Glide" that, of course, is my favorite.

I've been collecting pins since 1968 so I'm more into pins , patches are ok . but there is only so much room on jackets and vests

I was at Rolling Thunder, and Laconia in 2005 and they were issuing pins for these runs. I personally like pins from H.O.G., and also like to get the "I rode mine..." for the back of my vest for the major events I attend. As it has been stated before pins are smaller (but heavier), and the less expensive to put on. Plus it makes for more conversation to those that don't know what the pins are for and you have to explain what they are and how you went to event to get them.

FLH you're right that the pins are smaller and easier to deal with.
