Ended up with melted boot heel marks from my passenger at MV 10. What are you guys using to get the really tough ones off. After looking at my left side pipe, I am surprised her boot even has a heel left. LOL

SOS pads. Try 'em. :2vrolijk_21: Don't even need to rub hard, the soap in them does most of the work. You'll be amazed.

And make sure to use oven cleaner on the motor.....takes everything off......ROFLOL :huepfenlol2:
Now honestly...oven cleaner will take the boot marks off the pipes...heat the pipes up a little and make sure to keep the scotch brite pad moist with oven cleaner.....Do not get any on the motor....it will remove everything :nervous:

Thanks for all your tips. ended up putting over cleaner on a paper towel, let it soak on the pipes awhile, that got some of it off, this chit was thick and in 5 places. Next went to Flitz, got a little more off, then Dupont chrome cleaner just about all gone. Next White Diamond finished the removal then sealed the shield with Master Formula Sealer Gloss.
What took about a minute to put on took over an hour to take off and a whole lot of elbow grease. May be time to put her back on her own bike again or have her ride barefoot. LOL

I will only sus SOS pads. Never had a scratch. DO NOT USE THE GREEN SCOURING PADS. They will clean but leave your pipes dull.

I have always used a copper penny to remove all kinds of stuff off my pipes. It works great.

I use a product called "road rub" or something to that from my local dealer and it works great.

I use oven cleaner, get the pipes hot, spray it on a rag & with a little elbow grease, comes right off!

Okay sounds CRAZY but steel wool: yes steel wool triple or four 0000 will remove the hardest boot or rain pants marks and even the hardest bugs.
Wont scratch at all promise. Dont be Scared.

+1 on the 0000 steel wool. Been using it for 20 years and never scratched. Make sure it's a new piece.

Perhaps there are different grades of chrome because I used 0000 steel wool and it scratched the Harley header shields on my old FXD. Solvents only for me.

If Road Rub is the stuff that looks like a little deodorant stick and it's white, my friend just showed me the stuff a few weeks ago. That chit worked like magic. I just checked and that's what it's called. This is their website: http://vanlark.com/ (http://vanlark.com/) As it says, they don't sell it direct to individuals, and it says you'll need to contact your dealer to ask for it. My friend told me he's stopped yelling at his girlfriend for getting her boots on the pipes every time they ride, since it just takes a few seconds to get rid of the marks now. I'll have to remember to grab one for my saddlebag.

I use a penny too...just make sure it is an old penny that is 100% copper
just lay it flat on the surface and rub away......I found out when I let a micro cloth fall on hot pipes and tried oven cleaner, and just about anything I could think of........friend told me to get an old penny.....but here is the trick....do it when the pipes are cold!

In case I should ever want to give this a try, when you say just lay it flat on the surface, what are you saying? It doesn't sound like you are talking about the edge of the penny. Does it matter if you use the heads or tails side?

Yes heads or tails....however it seems some pennies have a better edge on one side I have noticed.....if you ever have to do it you will feel it ....don't tilt it like a scraper......some hards ones take a bit longer but do not press Real hard it will come off eventually

I was afraid of the steel wool as to not scratching up the chrome,, I had some pvc pipe cleaner on the shelf in my garage and put a small amount on a rag and the boot marks came right off,, and the chrome was fine. I'd try that again for sure. :2vrolijk_21:

Ha never thought of PVC cleaner and I always have a can around somewhere from projects like this one

Get the pipe hot and then use a piece of wood. Use the end grain of the board and slide it into the offending melted goo and it will come right off! Very fast and non abrasive.

a hard piece of wood with a clean cut edge, when the pipe is hot rub it off...done this many times. Once it is down to only a light film, polish with chrome cleaner.

Heat it up with a heat gun and wipe it off with a paper towel

A penny works great, softer than chrome so it won't scratch and takes the boot mark off. Takes a little work though, two round edges only take a line off at a time.

Steel wool works great and won't scratch the chome...I guess sos is the same, but with soap.

The soap does most of the work. Probably has some of the same chemical composition/properties as oven cleaner. Whatever the reason, it works slick as a whistle with no mess and no scratches.

Cool, I'll remember that. I've used fine steel wool for years with great results too.

The green scotchbrite pads will scratch the chrome, on the bike or in the house!
