Fins...Those dirty fins
« on: September 30, 2016, 07:10:18 PM »

Does anyone have a proven method for properly cleaning the bare aluminum edges of the engine cooling fins?
I've found that no matter how spiffy I detail every part of my CUSE, the edges of the fins are terrible-looking. A way to shine them without screwing up the granite paint ?

I have not tried myself, but have a friend who swears by Mr Clean Magic Eraser used wet. I use 3M Wet & Dry 1500 paper, wet on a soft rubber hand pad about once a year and they look exceptional.
I know a guy who used a product called Shark Hyde with a small brush after cleaning using my method and says it was once and done, has been a few years with no loss in appearance. I have not tried this and I think that is the correct name. He saw it on a boat maintenance show. It is advertised for use on polished alum to retain the polish finish, you can wipe it on with a lint free rag after polishingand your treadplate etc and it will preserve the shine for long time. I personally do not know.

Easy pressure with a scotch brite pad works also.
