Saddlebag Stands
« on: September 10, 2007, 07:30:59 PM »

Do any of you have, use or know of a saddlebag storage stand. I'm looking to purchase or duplicate something to hold my bags while I'm servicing the bike. Since the bag extensions will be going on I will no longer be able to just put them on a towel.

This company has one. http://www.bagger-parts.com/SaddlebagServiceStand.html

This is simple to make but may not store so easy.

I have the bagger part (teepee type) and for $124 it tends to tip over easily if not careful taking one of the bags and leaving one on stand. I thing Gary (dood) had the more square base that he had good reports about, but I can't lay my fingers on the thread. John

I use the bagrests too, and have been very happy with the product.  One bag left on the stand will not tump it over (be sure your bags are EMPTY).  I think d00d was one of the first to use this product and recommended it to me...been using it for over a year now.

I keep reading the same thing, the bag has to be empty. That sucks. I have way to much stuff in my bags to have to empty it each time they come off. I guess I'll be building something to suit MY needs. :)

John, get some little rubber stick on feet at Wal Mart or any hardware store.  Then you don't have to worry what you set them on.

I have the fuzzy part of velcro on all four corners of mine.  You shoulda seen the look on Mrs.We's face at Maggie Valley last fall when I took them off and set 'em on the asphalt parking lot at the Jonathan Creek Inn. :huepfenlol2: :2vrolijk_21:

I remember that now that you mention it.  It was priceless.  I've just got little rubber feet pad stuck on all four corners.  Just any kind of an insulator keep you from having to worrry about where you set the darned things down.

I'm thinking it's probably going to be the fuzzy velcro ones. :nixweiss: The rubber ones probably have "Glare" on them. :huepfenlol2:

That's what I did too and they work well.  My only tip would be to install them with the bags on the bike so there are no clearance issues.

I have the Bagrest stand too.  Works great, but it aint there when someone works on my bike.  The tech who changed my rear tire in Junction City, KS this summer put felt pads on all four corners of my saddlebags.  Pretty much a rare event for a HD shop to show that much concern........especially when I wasn't charged for the pads.

I got these stands on ebay - very good service and quality - for my FLHXSE with the lowered saddlebags. WARNING if you use these: with one bag on the rack, it will tip over. Fortunately, I had a blanket on the ground when it did tip - so the no damage to the bag. The solution, I "extended" the arm to build a better stable base.

The hard bag guardians by unique metal creations are the only way to go. You can have just one bag on the stand full of all your

valuable $hit and the lid open and it's still stable. And when folded up and not in use it free stands, or hang it up out of the way!

I met site member Bubba_T about 20 years ago when I was a designer for Bath Iron Works dealing with emergent issues requiring design changes to the DDG-51 Class Arleigh Burke Detroyers while they were in a shipyard for scheduled maintenance. Bubba_T was the government's Industrial Manager for these "availabilities" as they're called. (That means he signed the checks )  He used to say to me- - - "damn it Brian, I'm only asking you for a Volkswagen solution to the problem and you keep giving me Cadillac solutions " I can't help but remember him saying that as I read some of these threads on saddlebag stands and tourpack wall hangers etc etc. What's next, side panel holders ? Oh what the hell, Icybay has a brand new never been used 2000 B/W/O SERG Fairing hanging on a wall in his mancave.
