Having a heck of a time cleaning the whitewalls on my anniversary FLHRCI. Anyone got good tips on getting whitewalls clean?

Welcome to the site!
Wesleys "Bleach White", its availible at most auto parts stores. Spray it on and use a scrub brush. They will look like new!
SOS pads also do a good job.

The Wesleys product works great...used it on my white letter tires for years.

I had used SOS pads for years, but the possiblility for the metal residue on the wheels made me switch and it was Wesley's Bleach White that I found as well.
You would think that copius rinsing would take care of the SOS pad little pieces but it always seemed there would be a pot of rust that would show up.
Living with Chemicals isn't all bad.

Wesleys "Bleach White" works great, it's been around for years. When I was in highschool I detailed used cars for dealers in the area, we used this stuff all the time. If you don't have any and want to clean up those whites, Comet works good too, it's go bleach in it. Wet the tire scrub some Comet on and let it sit for a few minutes.

Wesleys Bleach White is the best I have found. Harley also has some whitewall cleaner that seems to work as good but cost more. When it comes time to replace brakes try Lyndall z pads. Will keep you whitewalls and chrome much cleaner for a longer period of time.

I used to be a “whitewall guy”; I ran the fat whites for years. I’ll bet that I piled up a ton and a half of brake dust on the front whitewall alone. (I’ve been told millions of times never to exaggerate).
I struggled with keeping them clean until I discovered an orange citrus cleaner called “Big-O” from Zep. A little water with Big-O and a nylon brush and it was done. I’ll bet that any of the many citrus cleaners would work well for you.

I think the best way to clean a whitewall is to take them off and put them caddi :) :) :)

The Harley tire cleaner always worked well for me on the white walls. Think it's citrus based.

I am a huge fan of Wesley's Whitewall Bleach however, I am not a fan of whitewall tires
OK, I guess on certain scoots I can live with the whitewalls :confused5:

This is great information....thank you. I have a cherry red FLHTCUSE2 on order now that I am due to receive in June. That is one way to get rid of the whitewalls!

I see that everyone has already said all there is to say about Bleach White so lets assume that it's a given--
My $.02 is to use Scotchbrite pads with a little BleachWhite on them
Raise the bike on the lift - spin the tires with the Scotchbrite against the WW - rinse with water - go ride
10 years and 40,000 miles on a 1997 Heritage Springer with "Gansta' Walls" the whole time !!
so - is anyone making a 200 series 17 inch rear White wall yet for my FXSTSSE ???

Wesley's Whitewall Bleach rocks!!
I also use it to clean the sidewalls on non-whitewall tires. It leaves a nice satin sheen; I'm not big on the glossy blackwall look.

Try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Wal*Mart carries them in the cage section. They work great as well. I just sold my 06 FLHRCI and have cleaned my last White Wall.

I'll let you into my trade secret for this. ;) I'm always asked how I keep the whitewalls so white and clean, and the answer is what I call "the Wonder Stuff"! It cleans whitewalls beautifully, it makes the black bits of tyres black, it takes tar spots off wheels, mufflers and headers, it dries quickly by itself - and mixed with washing up liquid it makes a great hand cleaner (but you need to moisturise after!)...... It's cheap, and most houses have it! What is it? Well, here's the problem - I don't know what you call it in the US! Here we call it "White Spirit" (years ago it was always labelled "turpentine substitute" too), but it's the stuff you use to thin household oil-based paints and clean paint brushes. I buy 2 litre containers of it, lasts a year, and is an indispensible aid for detailing the bike. But it's best use of all is cleaning whitewalls! :2vrolijk_21:

The best item to clean white walls is Mr. Clean Scrubby Pads. They are the best. Buy the heavy duty ones. ;D

Jim...I think we call that Mineral Spirits over here...it's a clear liquid. Didn't know it worked on tires though!!

Yes, a clear liquid TC. It's the best thing ever on tyres, keeps black black and white white! :)

Luckily I have no pain in the metal joints, but could probably find some other medicinal purposes ;) to partake in some of that. :2vrolijk_21:
Not back to work yet, don't plan on going back anytime soon. I can retire in July '08, and have close to two years sick time on the books. If I'm able to go back to work full duty then I will otherwise I'm just going to use my sick time until it's time for me to retire.

I guess unless you go back to FULL duty, it would be a pretty boring waste of time (especially when you could be riding or polishing some of that chrome!) :orange:

They don't pay you for the sick time when you leave, however they have this formula where they will add time to your years of service for pension purposes. This formula gives you pennies on the dollar to what you've earned and there is a cap (six months) that can be added to your time of service. There was someone that retired in November that had over 4 years of sick time and all he got was six months added to his time of service. Didn't take me long to realize if I wasn't able to go back to full duty and I had this amount of time to use it.

So in effect, you get penalised at the end of your career, for not going off sick! Crazy, huh? Still, 6 months worth more than you would get here, so at least it's something. And you can start a part time business from home - a "Chrome Advisory Service"! :drink:
