Title: zion sensor???
Post by: kng103 on April 21, 2007, 09:27:51 AM
i don't know if i am even spelling it correctly.
what the heck is this??? and what does it do???
my tuner told me that because of my mods and the tuning limitations of the power commander, he is getting crazy readings. he Say's it causes detonation and has something to do with the timing.
he Say's he can make it right with the race tuner.
he also said the bike runs fine and i can leave it alone.
is he just trying to sell me the race tuner??
he guaranties a major improvement with the race tuner.
i told him to go for it.
at this point i have so much invested in the bike whats a few more dollars??
anyone interested in a pc3usb??

Some tuners are just better with one tool than the other.  No particular reason a bike should run significantly better or worse with one than the other though.  If you don't mind buying a SERT and your guy promises he can tune with it than go for it.  If you'd prefer to stay with the Power Commander you already own it might be worthwhile to send a PM to Howie.  If memory serves he had a tuner in your general area very competent with the Power Commander.

he actually told me several things that the race tuner does that the pc does not.
my problem is that i am a layman and really don't grasp it.
he did say the bike runs fine the way it is.
he tunes alot of the crotch rockets with the pc, so i don't think he is more comfortable with one than the other.
i would really like to know about that zion sensor.
thanks for your reply.

It's not Zion but ion.  The ion sensor is monitored through the fourth wire to the coil that carb'd bikes don't have.  It's part of the system used to check resistance of the spark plug wires.

thanks for the info. :)
i still don't understand what the tuner was talking about. he was saying something about the way the piston burns the fuel fuel at the precise moment, and all kinds of other things that i do not understand. :nixweiss:
i guess i'll just have to wait and see what happens.
thanks again.
