What else would you ride if not your CVO?
« on: April 28, 2015, 09:50:57 PM »

Since many of us only own one bike, you can pick something you WOULD own as a second bike. If you have a second or multiple choices for two wheeled fun, what else is lurking in your garage?  ;D

My CVO is a great cruiser and fine for trips so for me, I would add something either sporty or vintage.

If it was sporty, probably a Ducati. Not sure which one but maybe a S4RC Monster. If vintage, old Norton, Triumph or maybe an Indian. Would also (don't be a hater) think about a 1200 Sporty and customize it to look like a cafe racer or something like that. Fun and flickable!

My first bike was a 1985 Honda Nighthawk 700S which I loved. Not really a crotch rocket but something in between. Sporty cruiser I guess. Was a blast to ride and handled great. For nostalgia reasons, I would consider getting another one just to tool around town.

So what would be your second, third or whatever bike if you don't already have one?

BMW R1200RT. It's a sport touring model so more upright ergonomics and very comfortable. Extremely fun, agile and capable motorcycle. Nice to have the hard saddle bags or "Paniers" and the European manufacturers call them.  There's time I miss the RT. I will probably buy another one next year.

Probably a custom chopper designed more for show, but, still good for riding around the city only.

Know a guy who just bought a K1200R. Great looking bike. Haven't ridden it one but it has had great reviews online.

Anyone a fan of MoCo's former stepchild, the Buell's? Anyone ever have a 1125R? Was supposed to have been the best one of the bunch before they quit production.

I will add a Softail to my 14 CVO Road King sometime this year.

Other bikes I wouldn't mind owning ...a BMW Adventure (800 or the 1200), Night Rod Special, a built up hot rod Sporty!

My other bike is a 96 Fatboy.  It has a S&S 117 with Branch heads and cams.  I love riding it when it isn't breaking down on me.

I misunderstood the thread purpose I thought it meant that you could not ride a Harley. There are many bikes besides the CVO line that I could ride and of course the Non CVO versions of the Limited and the Fatbob are acceptable.

I didn't say it couldn't be another Harley, just if you had more than one bike what would it be or if you have more than one, what else do you have?

For me it would the Kawasaki ZX-14 or the Concours C14. I've spent nearly 20 years on Ninja bikes and I miss that performance experience sometimes. I'm sure one of them will be sharing garage space with the CVO soon enough.

Well I am blessed I have two CVO's one Limited and one Fatbob love them both but very different bikes. Of course rthe wife has her new SGS. I could ad a Hyabusa and a BMW if only I had more money. I would build a bigger garage and add an Aston Martin DBS, a McLaren, a RR and truck big enough to pull it all around the country. There are few limits to my dreams. As to Riding a younger hotter woman?????? Sure but i could not afford that. :D

I'm fortunate that I've got another bike in addition to my CVO Street(Road) Glide convert.  While the CVO is my go-to for long trips and two up rides, I do enjoy changing it up from time to time.

My second bike is a 2006 Harley Softail Springer Classic.  It was a fun project for a few months and now it adds variety to my rides....

After riding the Springer several days in a row, I definitely appreciate being back on the touring bike.

At the ripe old age of 55 now I'd say  Harley Davidson big twin  between  1958 and 1969, would reallllllllllly like to have my 67 back.

Very fortunate to still have my 2002 Heritage Springer which has some motor work, a very fun bike to ride. I have thought about selling it many times but cant get myself to do it. I would love to have a nice Panhead to ride, 48-65 I'm not picky.  8)

Like screamincvo, a '76 Shovelhead.

Mines a FL Electra Glide with "some" modifications.

This is what I was when I bought it in '04.  I rode it a year like this and then tore it down and had it back together in 3 months down to the frame to be powder coated.  I rode it redone for a few years after that until I bought my first CVO '08 SERK.  Then it sat and felt very neglected...  :(

And this is STILL what I would ride after my CVO's.

Or I should say even now with the SERG in the garage, this is still what I ride mostly when my wife is not my BSR.  I enjoy the uniqueness of the old Shovelhead when I stop at the watering hole for a soda.  Some have asked if this was a new Heritage Classic.  But I have to be honest with them and tell them it's not.  It seems that there are LOTS of other great looking touring bikes now and the CVO does not stand out quite as much as they once did.  My solo riding is not long distance and usually only a 100 miles or so a day and the old FL does just fine for that.  If I ride solo further, I always ride the SERG for the tunes, comfort and ride quality.  Oh and speed toooooooooooooo.

I remember back in '06 when we went to Sturgis the first time we stayed in Keystone.  When leaving Rapid City up 16 if we didn't hit the long hills at 65 mph or above, we'd lose speed until I'd have to downshift into third.  And then all bets were off on ever getting back into high gear.  But then in '08 we went out and again stayed in Keystone.  This time I had the new '08 SERK Annie.  Boy did that 110" and 6 speed ever make a difference in long hills like on 16.  It was no problem at all.  This year we're going back again and again we're staying in Keystone.  This time though in the Presidents View Inn/Hotel.  I just made reservations about a month ago and got fairly good pricing: nine nights at $1,600.00.

Hope to see some of you guys there this year.  I'm keeping up with the thread on Events to see where everyone will be etc.

If I wanted something sporty it would be a Triumph Speed Triple (the 1060) or their 675 Daytona for more of a race bike. Maybe an Aprilia for track use, there are no streets where you can really use a bike like that. But I'm really a cruiser guy, so I wouldn't mind trying some other cruisers as long as I still had my CVO King. That Star Raider hauls and handles decently for a so-called factory custom/chopper styled bike. Triumph's Thunderbird/Storm is a plain Jane in terms of styling, but is supposed to handle good and also have good power.

The new BMW R 1200 GS.  With a Akrapovic pipe and Ohlins suspension.  Imagine, no chrome and no compensators!!!

These GS are very good allrounders just point and shoot good adjustable suspension if theres a draw back it would be the fact that they are tall bikes especially the Adventurer version but dont underate these they would give a cvo a run for the money , plenty of tourqe and 50mpg upright manouverable ive had two , the later 2010 up twin cam is the one to have .
Only traded to get a Tri Glide for my wifes mobility probs .

I still want another 1st generation GSXR... if I find one that hasn't been butchered.

Or by chance I find my '86 750 with an 1100 motor shoehorned into the chassis

I have a 48 to mix things up a bit.  I was thinking about getting a Ducati Panigale 1299S but decided not to go that route...

Would not mind something a bit different and fun... So I have had my eyes on the following:

An Indian Scout,

or a BMW R Nine T,

or a Moto Guzzi V7 Racer,

or a Ducati Scrambler,

or a Triumph Thruxton Ace Cafe

But none of those is calling my name strong enough to let go of any of the ones I have.  I keep busy changing stuff on the 48 for now...

If my second bike couldn't be a Harley, I'd pick a BMW for a touring bike.  I've test rode the Victory Vision and the Gold Wing and I've said no thanks to both of them.
Sport, maybe a Ducati, or a Yamaha sport tourer.  I can see the Ducati having the soul I require in my bikes.
If I could have another Harley, it would likely be a CVO Street Glide, or an older CVO Springer or a CVO Convertible.
Gosh, I'd love to have my old early 70's 50cc Suzuki Gaucho back, just to look at it and sit on it from time to time!  Maybe ride it out to check the mail or down to the boat ramp for an afternoon swim!
So many bikes...so little time (and money!).
