What does a new 1938 Knucklehead 61ci cost?
« on: November 24, 2007, 10:36:02 AM »

My dad bought a 1938 Knucklehead 61ci in 1940. It had been wrecked. He repaired the damage and rode it until he, and my mom, sold it in about 1953. He apparently had bought it from a friend and got the original sales document and of course kept it. He never throws anything away. His previous Harley, not sure what that was except I think it was 45ci's, was stolen so he bought this one. See the image below for the original cost. What can you buy for that amount now???  :nixweiss: Wish I could find the bike, if it even exists. Have tried but most of the folks are gone now that had anything do do with it.

The two bikes were his only means of transportation for some time, even in the winter. One tough guy, maybe that's part of why he's 91 now!!  :coolblue:

Hey Bojiboy, that's great!  Thanks for posting it.  I often heard the story of my Dad's purchase of a '38 61ci knuck that he special ordered with some options......paid approx. $600 in NICKLES.......he had a small Tavern/Grill and beer/hot dogs/everything was a nickle back then.  So.....he ended up riding that scooter all over the USA & Mexico.  Great ole scooters....he always swore that his 61ci was faster than my 74ci knuckle (chopper) after he rode it.  ;D  har!  :drink: spyder

Hey D00d, that's how I bought my '47 knuckle....in cardboard boxes.  Rode it for 19 years......changed it many times and sold it as a fully chromed out chopper for $2700.  One of my more stupid moves.  :o har!  spyder
