What is the handling report on the 09 bagger frames?
« on: November 12, 2008, 03:42:52 PM »

Has anybody had any issues with handling (rear steer, high speed wobble, flexing,  etc.) with the new 09 frames?

With only 3000 miles on mine I can say it is the best handling Harley I have ever owned.

There has been a few times at speeds like we rode to get your camera ( :o) and no wobble, weave or rear steer.

What's everybody else with an 09 think?

I've had an 03,07 and the 09 is the best handling bike by far.... straight on the highways, great in the turns  :2vrolijk_21:

Difference from the 04 Road Glide and SERG is very distinct.  The 09 feels planted all the time and confident if not downright aggressive in the turns.  Back in Sept. we were teasing new SERG owner who said they did not scrape in turns as not riding hard.  I do ride hard and have yet to scrape anything in a turn (other than a bell hanging from the frame).  Coming up on 2K miles and am very glad I got one!

Let's see: 01 SERG, 01 Heritage, 01 Ultra, 05 SEEF, 09 SERG. Hands down the best handling and most stable Harley I've ever owned. 4,000 miles and I STILL haven't touched down a hard part.

Looks like that's pretty unanimous.....and a good report.  Maybe they've finally corrected that issue.

Marty, after this weekend, Terrie's looking at the possability of trading her Dyna in on a Street Glide.  Of course I'm pushing her to go with the 09 for the new frame, ABS and cruise control.  Sure would make life easier for her.

To add this JC,
The economy sucks.
Dealers are ready to deal.
Ask for 20% off on all parts for 1 year.
Have them throw in the LoJack. (with pager)
An 09 is the only way to go.

But have to ask, how tall is Terrie?
Those new ones sit high!
But Jim has Arnott's.

Thanks Marty.  We went down night before last....just lookin.  I think we'd only have to change the seat (narrower cut and maybe a little closer) and leave the shocks a stock length.  It's her decision and she's let me know on more than one occassion....that she's more than capable of making up her own mind. :o

This is the third FL series motorcycle I've owned and I love the handling response .  Its much quicker reacting and nimbler than the previous frame. I will say that it did take a couple of weeks to get used to the quickness, but now its great.

HD screws up plenty of stuff but this frame they did good.

cheers

I am sure the frame/swingarm helps a lot in the handling on the 09's, but I also believe the new tire tread design has a lot to do with the improved handling.

Has anybody had any issues with handling (rear steer, high speed wobble, flexing,  etc.) with the new 09 frames?

Feels great, firm and does not wash out in a turn even with strong power applied... Solid and no hopping in a turn. Great....  I have a 2009 SERG Yellow/grey.

Well, Terrie took the plunge and bought an 09 Street Glide today.  A very nice bike, for sure.

Thanks to all of you for the feedback and report on the 09 frames. :2vrolijk_21:

It had the spoke laced wheels on it when we saw it on the floor.  But I prefer tubless and certainly didn't want to pay extra and have to deal with spokes (did that for way to many years).  So I convinced them to deduct the premium for the laced wheels and instead of putting stock Street Glide wheels (wasn't to fond of big black wheels on a red bike) I convinced them to put on a pair of stock 09 Ultra Classic wheels.  I think they look even better than I expected them to......for stock wheels. :nixweiss:

 :bananarock:

That's what I thought about this year's Street Glide stock wheel Chip.  How is they make such a nice looking bike and put such a fugley wheel on it?  Oh yea, that's by design so that we have to spend more. :nixweiss:  Something tells me that these wheels and most everything else will be on this bike for a long time to come.  Terrie's not much about modding a bike.

Oh yea, it had Python exhaust that the dealership already put on it, so at least it's not the stock sound.  Actually doesn't sound bad.  And, I can hear the stereo at 85. :2vrolijk_21:

Street Glide wheels. Enjoy!!!!! Try not to get caught up in the red

Congratulations Terrie!  Enjoy!

I thought about you when I was posting the photos Mike.  I thought "now these photos are going to make Mike really homesick for Cali". :nixweiss:

Surely am Bro and am a little bummed to miss the early May trip yall have planned..There is lots of lotto to play before then, so I will hold out hope.   ;D

Having the nice weather start here is helpful.  We were out late Saturday on the Road Sofa, 11:00 pm and 74 degrees a nice ride from Boca to Wellington up the A1A.

It is now the Florida mini-season for us year rounders to enjoy before the full blast of sno-birds hits after Christmas...

It was great that you could get the dealer to put the Electraglide wheels on.  Looks a lot better than the stock Streetglide wheels (they are always on Ebay).
The only downside of the new Electraglide wheels is cleaning could be a PIA (but Terry has you for that).     :)

I got to find out yesterday, after we returned from our ride.  Actually those wheels clean up easier than I first thought they would.  The black inside the spokes is gloss and the holes are just perfect for a finger with a terry cloth towel.  Just a little polymer sealant on the wheels and a towel.........and it's done.

Educate me on something.
I just assumed the wheels on Terrie's bike were stock when you didn't get the laced wheels.
Are you saying the 09 Street Glides still come with those ugly cast wheels standard?
IF yes, , , BOY you really did Terrie a favor to get rid of those std wheels.

Yes, the stock Street Glide wheels look like something that came off of a 70s model pick up truck.  I was able to get the refund on the wire wheels.....then talked them into trading the stock Ultra Classic wheels for the stock Street Glide Wheels.

Chip I've been doing business here for 24 years and I have the same relationship with them as you do with Ken. :2vrolijk_21:  It's a dealership that appreciates their customers.

And that's even better! Ken has had the Harley dealership for 18 years and have been buying bikes from him since day one. It's all about relationships!

Grat's Terrie! Your gonna like it was you make it yours. All you need now is Bassani Power curve, Bassani megaphone mufflers, Doherty air cleaner, and a bell and you will be ready to go.My Linda has a street glide with the seat trimmed in front and it puts her feet on the ground. She likes her bike.
