What does Your Dealer do Special?
« on: January 29, 2009, 03:34:17 PM »

With all of the news about the economy and Dealerships closing, my friend mentioned we should have another thread about the great ones. So, what does your Dealer do that is special? Does he (or she) close on Wednesday afternoons for a group ice cream ride? Say all...

Hey Spyder,

I did add Schaeffer's to that list when it was going a year or so ago.  But that list was for good service, or sales, or deals, etc.  Still worthwhile, but it might be worth getting a list of dealers that actually ride and participate with their customers.  Schaeffer's is one.  Smaltz's in Eagle PA was another one until Stretch died.  Don't know if there's anyone there now who's riding or not.

Picked up my bike less then a week ago from Baltimore HD. I live 3 hours away and they paid for my gas, meals and a room for my wife and myself. Several days after the sales manager call to make sure everything was Ok and today I recieved a card in the mail.

I must admit that each dealer I have purchased a bike from had processed my check faster than I can drink a beer...The know how to process the money honey..

Other than that I really don't think I would piss on the building of any of them if were riding by and saw it on fire...

I only go to the dealer for things I can't get else where, or if I need right away, like maybe gaskets. Twice the price, half the service. :nixweiss:

No, I've not been around the HD market like some of you other people, but I have been involved on both sides of the desk in customer service in an automotive dealership.  I can say without a doubt that my dealership, Doc's HD of Kirkwood MO 314-965-0166 sales Rick Blanner, is one of the best in the area for actual mechanical service work.  As far as purchasing experience, they are rated as the NUMBER ONE in the nation for purchase experience.  Patty Bush owns the dealership and took it over from her brother who had to retire for medical reasons.

Patty has been in customer service all her life and her HD dealership family has the same customer values.  I know its an old cliche, but treat people like you would like to be treated is the number one rule at Doc's.

When my bike had been delayed several times, the sales manager and owner agreed to try and dealer trade to get me riding faster.  This was not by my suggestion, but by their offer.  At that point the '08 SERK Annie's were in high demand.  They traded a frost white and silver '08 SEUC, which was even in higher demand, for my current ride.  That's going out of the way to get and keep a new customer.

Again, I'm going on and on about this place, but I appreciate a great place when I come across one.

No doubt there are other great dealerships around, but I'll go back and I'll recommend them to anyone looking.

They promote the hell out of the Biker's for Babies as well as lots of other non profit organizations.  Like Backstoppers, which is an organization for the families of fallen police and firemen in the greater St. Louis area.  They raise money and have big parties and the money goes to worthy groups.  The Doc's Hog chapter is very well organized and does lots of civic project throughout the year.

Just about every other weekend there's something going on at Doc's.  Don't get me wrong, they do LOTS of self promotion for business with free hotdogs etc just like others, but you do feel good about supporting them as they support you when you need it.

So other than falling all over myself giving my dealership props, that's about all I have to say.

Sorry for the unsolicited plug for Doc's above.

These are the people that got my rear wheel chrome chipping problem taken care and the flaking powder coating on the inner primary.  All this was done with nothing more on my part to point it out to them.  They got HD to cover it and that was that.

LA Harley (Lewiston/Auburn, Me) has an open house party each spring. They have a battle of the bands to choose their Harley band for the year and they will play at fund raisers and at the Harley bar (not the name of the bar, it's just associated with the Harley shop). They also have all different kinds of food and vendors at the open house. Last year they had a drawing for a new Sportster, had some stunt riders putting on a show, an arm wrestling contest, and a bike show (I took second place with my Dyna). Of course they had in-store specials. Lots of bikes, people, and good times.
