Not so sure there is only one correct answer.  Considering that the biggest issue in rain is visibility and safety, and not a little discomfort from getting wet, I'd think the best approach would be to pull over long enough to set some riding rules for the group and then proceed.  If visibility goes down the tubes, you don't want a group running all over each other, and you don't want a single bike with a single tail light like the Sporty being run over by a semi either.  I'd guess a stop of 5 minutes or less would be sufficient, and if folks couldn't listen up and put on rain gear at the same time then tough tata's, I guess they get wet.

I say ride on through. The weather is at your back, outrun it. I ride a bagger and I don't have room for a sportster's rain gear. If it is REALLY raining none of us are riding anyway.

Prior to my FLHXSE I rode a 2003 Softail Standard without a wind screen.  My wife was on her 2007 Road King and we embarked on a trip from San Antonio the Milwaukee for the 105th party and she would't carry my rain gear until I pitched a huge fit.  Lucky for me she is 14 years younger than me, hot, and a great mother  :P  Be a sport and offer to carry the gear even if they don't toss a fit  ;)

The only choice here belongs to the Sporty whether or not to wait. He's getting wet either way. How can it somehow be deamed honorable or noble to ride in the rain with your gear stowed simply because someone with you wasn't prepared?

Exactly. Damned if I'm gonna get soaked because someone forgot or didn't bother to be prepared.

So the sporty does not carry a travel backpack strapped to the bike with rain gear in it?  some water, or Beef Jerky?

Stop, put on gear, ask sporty to stay and learn lesson.

Would the Sporty rider get wetter if the bike had synthetic or dino oil in it?

I would offer up any assistance I could even if it was part or all of my rain gear. If Sporty could tolerate it then I could even more.  I've been put in situations of discomfort and know I can survive it.  I would want the people I ride with to know I have their back.

On my most recent rides the more experienced riders stated the conditions of the upcoming ride and offered advice and questioned our readiness.  Made me know I was riding with the right people.

Semper Fi

If it was the wet-t-shirt scenario then I'd have to reevaluate real hard since I'm married and no longer carry that type of rain gear.
