What helmet and why?
« on: December 15, 2010, 01:24:45 PM »

What helmet did you choose and why? Do you use a different helmet for different riding styles? My head starts to itch after a short time in a helmet does anyone else have this issue or what can I do to prevent it. Before you respond yes my helmet is clean, I wash my hair morning and nite most days no I do not have head lice or any other type of issue with my hair or head.  :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

I use a Roof Helmet, they are made in France, the chin piece hinges backwards so the helmet can be used as an open face, or pull it forward and clip in down for a full face, the visor is also adjustable up n down, I like this helmet for it`s function and versatility.

Short of shaving your head bald...

Take a look at Super Seer helmets.

http://estores.infront.com/superseer/item_listing.asp?scid=1

This is the helmet my wife and I have used for the past 15 years and love them.

Expensive, but a very nice helmet (with the right accessories) in all kinds of riding conditions.

Hi Cobb,  I used to wear a beanie all the time in helmet states, but got tired of wind burn on my face and a overheated head. I chose a HJC IS-33   http://www.hjchelmets.com/   with pop down sun shield and vents. The pop down sun shield pops up out of the way if it gets dark and you don't want to stop to change glasses. On the trip last summer it worked well in the cold and heat.
I don't like the bubble head look, but I'm over that now and into function.  Harley sells a version of this same helmet for more bucks.  Lou

Most of the time I ride with a skullcap type helmet ..  I like the freedom of no helmet, but this keeps the CHP off my back.  I have a DOT sticker on the back of it (like that fools anyone)  ;D

When I am touring or riding in Inclement weather I also carry a Vemar Jiano Bluetooth fullface.   Tried this helmet to integrate helmet to helmet and cell phone COMM into the ride with BSR, but it just didn't work out as well as expected.  I have added corded headset to this helmet, with HD comm which works much better. gave up on cell phone comm until Harley comes up with a boom audio solution.

Depending on the weather and my mood, I'll mainly ride with my HD half shells, 3/4 shell when riding with the BSR and wired for sound, or full face when it's cold out.  I found that the best thing that worked for me to prevent "scalp fatigue" was to wear a doo-rag.

Maybe a little more about the 3/4 shell and how it is wired for sound that is one of the issues I am dealing with getting right.

I have the J&M premium speakers for the helmet and had problems with the depth by the ear on the HJC IS-33 so returned the helmet.  (speakers would be touching me)  Anyone have a helmet that would accommodate these speakers?   Other than that the helmet was great.

I have the HJC CL-33. I can't stand the full face helmets, even in winter. The shield for the 33 fits just right with a curve that blends into the helmet and redirects air flow around smoothly and efficiently. The bottom is easily sealed with something around your neck, or in my case a full beard acts to slow the updraft and keep the bugs and rain out. I run with the shield up if I want wind in my face and the view is much better than a full face. It's my favorite helmet ever... I have also "crash tested two HJC helmets" and they work well to keep the pumpkin from busting open...

as I have been warening the same one for 3  years now.
