Title: Harley Paint Colors.
Post by: Stewie_FL on January 23, 2022, 11:00:02 AM
I just have to ask, who the f*^' at Harley Corporate is picking out paint colors? Nothing but crap for years. If they keep that up, I sure will never buy a new Harley. What are your thoughts?

For a basic bike the colors aren't bad. At least H-D hasn't followed in the footsteps of Henry Ford "you can get any color you want as long as it's black". problem I see is being hampered by it's marketing on tradition for long term riders. Wanting to have that old school design and look can lock you into a mindset. I'm sure after 100 plus years it's hard to come up with a new color or paint scheme when the blank canvas limits you.
As far as CVOs are concerned in my opinion when they were made on a separate assembly line with specialized parts then they got creative with paint and that could help explain the high prices of a CVO, now not so much!

I think the Harley paint deal is:

1.  Using up old paint inventories.
2.  Has 1 foot planted in the past & their other foot jerks around but cannot land in the future because they don't want to piss off their assumed customer base.
3.  They miss Willie G. & his team.  A lot.  More than a lot.
4.  If they keep raising the bike prices people will believe since they are paying so much that HD has not cheaped out on paint schemes.
5.  Covid, because everything is blamed on Covid whether it is Covid or not so why should this be any different?

There is a rumor that if this pandemic continues, Harley will introduce a mid-year bike, it will be a
“COV” and the model # will be “id-19”.

Not everyone will want one, but eventually everyone will get one.

Harley has NO old paint inventory per say. I'm not sure if they still sell it by the quarts. There is no reason to since PPG is available. When Harley gets paint deliveries, it come by the tractor trailer load. That is why in 2019 Scorched Orange was so had to come by. They got a bad color match and only noticed it after spraying. PPG sent in their people to try to tint it. They could not. So the tank was emptied and they had to wait for another load. They went 6 months without that color being available.

But I do agree. They need to step up the CVO paint again.

Harley does not have OLD paint inventory. Some may not like the colors that are offered, but at least they offer multiple colors. Maybe HD should be like BMW and everything be black or old & drab?
