Not down, but out for now
« on: September 16, 2019, 08:29:53 AM »

Hi All,

My wife and I were recently on a trip to the west coast with friends and we ended up cutting our trip short unfortunately.

I started to experience trouble breathing on day 11 of a 21 day trip when we were in Missoula and then Idaho Falls.  When we reached Jackson I decided to get checked out thinking that it was something more than just the elevation.  Turns out the elevation made things worse but I ended up being hospitalized for 5 days with pneumonia before being flown home with a medical escort.

Now my wife's and my bike are both sitting in Jackson and I'm having to arrange their shipment back home.  The doc tells me I won't feel like riding much for about 6 weeks anyway, so I won't miss having my bikes... just want them back safe & sound in my garage, ya know?

I've done many trips in my day, and this is the first time anything like this has happened.  Compared to others, this is noting - but it still sucks!

Dang, Grizz, now THAT'S a story and trip you will always remember.  Just glad that the ending is good and you are on the road back to good health through His wonderful, healing power.

If there was some way I could help with getting the bikes back to you, I would but good luck in the effort.  There are a few good, affordable shipping companies out there that others here on the site have used but not sure about which ones would get them across the Canadian border back to your home.  Sent you a PM

Wishing you a speedy recovery.
We used Haul Bikes back in June and they did good.
Price was close to half the price others wanted.

Thank you all for your well wishes.  This too will pass in time, I just have to listen to my doc and give it the time it requires.

I have been in touch with Haul Bikes who gave me a good price to ship the bikes to Gowanda H-D (real great people there) who very quickly offered to unload and store our bikes till I get well enough to travel - all for free!  Problem is Haul Bikes do not go to Jackson and it would require me to have them towed to Malad City, ID and stored somewhere till Haul Bikes get there to pick them up.  I can only imagine what the costs would be - most likely more than what it will cost to get them all the way home, based on what I've already checked out.

BTW, never let your insurance company arrange shipment of your bike.  The best deal they came up with, (are you sitting down?) was $7,500. to ship our 2 Ultras to just north of Toronto.  Can you believe that nonsense?  I just told them to leave it with me, and I will send them the bill.  Oh yeah, they will only cover up to $1,000. to ship the 2 bikes home.  Give me a break.  That will be a discussion for another day.  Right now I have to get our bikes home and get stronger and feeling better, so I'm up for a good battle with them.

Thanks again guys, I really appreciate your well wishes.

All the best,
Mike (Grizzly)

Wow, really sorry to read this.  I sure hope you're going to be OK.......prayers up buddy!

I also hope you have SkyMed to take care of the financial end of your flights home and getting your bikes home.
