To all the guru's out there. Getting a 2021 CVO Limited. My plan is to leave the engine and exhaust stock. Adding reverse and Iride suspension by Thundermax. So What say you?

Pros: factory warranty left intact, easier to find replacement parts for stock bikes, never have to worry if the tech (or you if you’re wrenching) installed the parts correctly, could make it easier to sell down the road, you can spend your time riding rather than researching and wrenching (but then again researching and wrenching are part of the fun, especially in the winter)

Cons: not near as much fun as making it your own, leaving HP and torque on the table, factory mufflers stifle that beautiful exhaust note that Harleys are known for

Summary: it’s your bike and I think you should do whatever you want to it…nothing wrong with stock or modified as long as YOU are happy with it!

Definitely makes them easier to sell. I never consider used bikes (or cars) mainly because I have no idea what modifications were done and by whom.

Thanks for the input guys. I really like how quite the bikes were when I test drove them in Sturgis this year.
My main concern was if there were any grenades counting down from poor quality parts.

My mako is stock.   It's fine for me. I have a big investment in the audio with a top of the line soundz system that I can enjoy at any speed. No advil needed after a long day.  I did upgrade the suspension front and rear with legend suspension. And of course a comfy seat with higher bars and a windvest screen. Those are my mods and very happy with my decision to leave the motor alone on that one. Just my. 02..Stuart

There was an unsubstantiated rumor that one of the springs on one of Twolane's bike jiffy stands was stock, but it turned out to be untrue.

I have two friends with M8 motors that have left them stock except for one that installed slip on mufflers.  They are both happy with the set ups.  They are not CVO bikes though.

Pros:  more money in your pocket, easier to repair when touring if not equipped with heavily modified parts(non factory equipment)

Cons: could get boring sooner than later, just another bike in the crowd

Nothing wrong with adding a set of mufflers, just to give it some more bark …

My bikes still identify as stock (petulant remarks of friends notwithstanding).  My bikes also, unfortunately, also only identify as being as well ridden as they used to be.  Best of all though is that they are still identified in my garage.

For myself, I didn’t plan on getting my money back with the changes I’ve made, but I do have some friends dumping $$$$ into sound systems, motor mods, etc and are offended when the dealer offers them blue book on a trade in!
I still have my EVO with LOTS of $$$$ invested, but it’s a keeper and I always get comments when I ride it. Same thing with my rod, built to keep ME happy.
But, that’s me.

Had a 2007 bagger that I kept stock.  Hated riding it.  No power, crappy seat, terrible sound system and really bad suspension.  Needless to say, I didn't ride it much.  When I traded in 2012 it only had 5000 miles on it.

Bought a 2012 FLHXSE3.  Without even test riding it, I added: Drago's 2 into 1, TMan Cam, TTS Mastertuner, Tuned by a pro, Corbin Seat and some minor cosmetics.  This, I was pretty happy with.

Six months later, I kept reading on this forum the guys doing a little more engine work to be really happy.  So, time for a little engine work: Sent the Heads to TMan to grind, port and polish, Bottom end to Dark Horse to true, weld and balance, SE 10.5 pistons, Lifters, Throttle Body, Rods, New TMan Cam, Tuned by Robin 125 squared.  Extremely happy camper.

More forum reading, time for new bars, new sound system and new suspension.

More forum reading will make you spend money, but you'll probably have a bike that you'll keep forever.

Seriously, you don't need to do all that I did to be very happy with your bike.  I would always recommend: Exhaust, Cam and Tuner.  That alone will make you very happy with your bike.  After the 2007, I would never even consider leaving one stock.

I bought a bike back in 07 and swore I was going to keep the 103 stock.  Then I went on our yearly trip with friends.  I think it was when riding the Forrest Gump road out in Monument Valley when I had the throttle wide open and my friend on a mildly equipped 96 just pulled away from me.  He continued to get enjoyment out of doing that the rest of the trip.

We got home, and I got to work on that engine.

The problem for a buyer of a modified bike is you rarely know the quality of the work performed.

absolutely do whatever you want.. just don't whine if you don't get warranty and don't expect to get any of the mod money when you sell it.. if you trade it many dealers discount what they think it will take to get it back to stock from the trade value.. just the way it is

I have the same bike you want to buy. 20 years ago, a Harley that broke a 100 hp was considered a big deal and riders would spend big bucks to break the century mark. These days, they do the same to get 140+ hp, lol.
I find the 117 M8 engine perfectly fine, done a lot of 2 up riding on it this year all over the country. It doesn’t throw off lot of heat in stop and go traffic, has plenty of get up and go, gets good gas mileage, even the stock suspension is decent. Mechanically, I added fullsac baffles to the stock exhaust and that was it. I did upgrade the stereo with a focal amp and speakers.

Love the bike with just a few exception's. No Sirius radio, 18" rims, non adjustable rear floorboards. Mods made: Iride suspension, lower fairing speakers, low profile solo seat, detachable tourpak and changed the rims and tires to 16". The 16" wheels with a low profile tire along with the low profile seat and the Iride auto adjusting shocks made the bike ridable as I am vertically challenged.
I really love the power and how QUITE it is with stock exhaust. Absolutely LOVE the Bronze Armour color scheme.

First bike rode stock with mufflers for 4 years. Second bike mufflers and stage 1 tune. Third bike, saved money then 110 HD performance upgrade ( should have done it sooner) Fourth  bike, saved money and TC 117 HD upgrade ( should have done it sooner) Fifth  and current bike ( 131 HD kit and Legend Suspension ) before it left the showroom

My lesson learned is HD's are expensive toys and you might as well enjoy them.
