Bike Died
« on: May 03, 2012, 09:18:04 PM »

Need some help. 3 times now the bike has died, motor stopped and all electrical dead. Up until today in about 15 second all electrical came back and the motor started normal. Today it did it again but this time it didn't come back. Not even the security key is on. I'm thinking it the extreme angle cut off switch. Any thoughts out there?

Ignition switch or the kill switch would be my first guess.

If you lost lights and ignition start with the battery and cables.

depending on the year there have been main breakers that will fail when they heat up, when they cool down they work - there was a recall for some years for this

Thanks for the ideas. Guess I should have said what I had tried. First thing was battery cables, with everything dead I have 13 volts to the main 40 amp fuse. Thought about the 2 switches but with the security dead also I wasn't thinking that would be it.

Had similar problem as you on a fuel injected Evo Road King.  It was the "bank angle sensor."

X2 always start with the simpliest things first like Axil said. Also pull your main fuse and check with continuity lamp. CAHDBIKER

I just had the same problem, the dealer replaced the BCM.  I just got the bike back yesterday so I have not had the chance to to test the fix yet.

06, Check the connector at the ignition switch and see if it is loose. It's not very common but does happen.

The BCM is the Body electrical Control Module, and it's used only on the HDLAN bikes.  So it doesn't apply to the Touring model which is the subject of this thread.

Wow another electrical prob like I had on my '03 Ultra.

Exact same symptoms, bike just died.  Came back briefly, died again.

Turned out be a pinched wire in the handlebar controls that was tripping the main.  Installer at dealership put on chrome controls upgrade the previous week, problem started a few days later.

Well things continued to NOT improve. The ABS light started staying on on top of the cutting off. I broke down and took it to the shop. They replaced the ECM and the voltage regulator. Best they can figure the regulator caused over voltage that damaged the ECM. If it fixes it I will be happy. Should get it back Wed. they had to order the regulator, go figure.
